So “the” is only endemic to SoCal?

Like many plagues that's where it started. Signs point to it being used when SoCal/LA freeways had names like "The Harbor Freeway" and it just stuck once they got numbers.

On the plus side it makes the Californians/Southern Californians easy to spot when they hit Oregon.
