Well, as I mentioned in another post, this past weekend I topped over 100 hours in the air as a pilot. I thought that would make it about time to look back through my logbook and pull out a few stats. Overall, I think I had a very good first 100 hours. Let me share some with you:

Notable Flights:

First Flight: 3/20/2004 DWH-DWH C172N N756AW - my first discovery flight... the bug bit me hard, but I didn't have the money to bite back yet
First Solo: 6/22/2007 SGR C172N N1629E
PPL Checkride: 8/15/2007 SGR C172N N1629E
First Passenger Flight: 8/19/2007 SGR-SAT-SGR C172N N1629E - took girlfriend to SAT for lunch
Most Memorable Flight 1: 2/7/2009 0.5 hours in a B738 Full-Motion Sim
Most Memorable Flight 2: 3/21/2009 2.0 hours in a Stearman PT-17
Most Memorable Flight 3: 3/28/2009 Taking the raffle plane from HOU-IAH
Most Meaningful Flight: 1/31/2009 - took girlfriend's grandparents (who have basically adopted me as a grandson) flying... meaningful because grandpa is presently dying from prostate cancer. I'll never forget the look of joy on his face as we flew.
Longest Distance Flight: 4/11/2009 - BMQ-AUS-HOU

Goals for the next 100 hrs (in no particular order):
1) Fly a G1000-equipped airplane of some type.
2) Fly a Cirrus SR-22
3) Get more taildragger time (preferably in that Stearman)
4) Fly the DA-20 and DA-40 on the line at another nearby airport
5) Build more PIC X-C time
6) Get an instrument rating
7) Fly a helicopter.

Okay, that's enough for me... What were your stats from your first 100 hours, how many hours do you have now, and what are your goals for the next 100 hours?

I like how you've set goals for the next 100 hours. A great idea! :p

I'll get out my logbook later and check my stats for my first 100 hours. Should be interesting to see it all written down!

Now, if ya could just speed up for us Skyhawks with an extra 45 HP? :)

Keep having fun and learning!

Dude, my IAS was 70kts on that approach! It's not my fault that your plane is an over-achiever! :)

ill have to dig out my logbook when i get home. I suspect your first 100 hrs were a lot more interesting than mine.

My log book is at home as well (and I'm in Boston). PJ, you've definitely had a very interesting first 100 hours, I'd say moreso than me.

Hands down, my most memorable flight in my first 100 hours was the 3 hour night XC in the Aztec that today is my plane. The only flight that might be more memorable in my total flying time was the day I passed my CP-AMEL-IA check ride and got to fly my plane myself for the first time, but that was in the high 200s total time.

Now I've done 300 hours in about 1.5 years of flying, and gone from nothing to CP-ASEL & AMEL-IA. For the next 100 hours, my goal is to get at least one of my flight instructor ratings (if not all three) and do more charity flights. At the current rate, I should pass 400 sometime this year.

My log book is at home, but I do recall that I hit 100 hours tt and 10 hours dual in the Arrow at the same time (purely by accident). Also had a few (5?) hours in the C-182P by then, too.

Keep it up. Sure is fun, isn't it?

First flight 3/22/06

Most Memorable flight
4/13 5.9 TT at MYR Class C ops and first forward slip to landing.

12/19/06 total 99.5 hours about half way through IFR course.

Oh, I don't know. First hundred hours included 20 different airports, although none class B. Didn't see the need and still haven't. Included purchasing an airplane and flying it to the narrowest strip I've yet seen for repairs, and capped off with my first trip to Oshkosh for the show. Included an honest to goodness engine out emergency, an accidental cross controlled stall, and a near JFK Jr over lake Michigan. Quite interesting, actually.

It was kinda fun to dig back through my logbook!

My first 100 hrs
Intro Flight - 6/2/97 1.0 hrs TT

20th b-day - 6/10/97 - 4.0 hrs TT (memorable because I was so glad to be doing something I LOVED on my b-day!)

First Solo - 7/1/97 16.4 hrs TT (actually broke up with my loser ex-boyfriend the same day. I was so excited to have soloed and he told me it wasn't that big of a deal. Buh-bye!)

PP-ASEL Practical - 10/3/97 - 58.6 hrs TT

Complex Endorsement - 12/15/97 - 95 hrs TT

Started Instrument Training - 12/15/97ish - 95 hrs TT

Not a very exciting first 100 hrs, but it brought up a lot of good memories!! :D:D:D

I followed PJ's format, this is what I found in my old logbook:

Total time: 100.3
Instrument Approaches: 35
Total landings: 133
Full-Motion Sim Time: 0
ASEL: 100.3
AMEL: 0
Cross Country: 41.2 (35.6 PIC X-C)

Airplanes I've Flown but Didn't Log: 1 (N7385J, Cherokee 140, my Uncle's airplane)

Different CFI's I've Flown With: 5

Notable Flights:

First Flight: 5/24/2002 EST C152 N4468Q
First Solo: 6/20/2002 EST C152 N4468Q
PPL Checkride: 9/16/2002 EST C152 N4468Q
First Passenger Flight: 10/13/2002 EST PA28-180 N33764 My Grandma ( it was right around her birthday), Uncle, and Dad. We had a blast just flying around. I did a go around.
Instrument Checkride: 12/14/2002 EST C152 N4468Q
Most Memorable Flight 1: First Passengers
Most Memorable Flight 2: Private Ride
Most Memorable Flight 3: 1/14/2003 EST PA28-180 N33764. I left high school early and did some touch and go's. Then I went back to school. It was a blast!

So I spent probably 99% of my first 100 hours doing training. I took my Private ride at 38.3 hrs and Instrument ride at about 78 hrs. Hooray for pt. 141 schools.

Like I said PJ, your first 100 hrs were a lot more interesting.

Not quite in the hundred hour range but at 130 I flew a T41 from ANP to OSH for my first trip there. I had had my private for about 5 months then.

Ok, this seems sorta fun. PJ has seen some airspace and a few aircraft, more than me that's for sure. But I did manage to do a few things in the first hundred.

Here's mine as close to 100 hours as I can get:

Total time: 102.7
Instrument Approaches: 1 (ok, it was mostly a weave in the vicinity of a localizer)
Total landings: 260
Full-Motion Sim Time: 0
ASEL: 102.7 (totally skipping 3 glider rides here since they're in a separate logboook)
AMEL: what's multi?
Cross Country: 30.6 (26.2 PIC X-C)
Day: 90.0
Night: 12.7
Actual Inst: 0
Sim Inst: 3.4
Dual Received: 70.1
PIC: 47.0

Airports I've Operated at: 22
Class B Airports: 1
Class C Airports: 2
Class D Airports: 4
Class E Airports: 2
Class G Airports: 14

Airplanes I've Flown: 10+

Cessna 172: 5
Citabria: 1 - Spins
PA 28 201T: 1
PA28R-201: 1 - Complex Endorsement
Remos G-3: 1
Gobosh 700: 1
some glider that shall remain nameless: 1
years ago and far away: F105 sim at Tinker - CAP cadet thing

Different CFI's I've Flown With: 8

First Flight: Long time ago and several states away
First Solo: 3/20/2008 BJC C172N N739ZC
PPL Checkride: 5/1/2008 BJC C172N N4547E - the slug - max climb ~300 fpm with DPE aboard and all the landings were with a substantial tailwind component.

Longest Distance Flight: 10/18-19/2008 - BNA-EOS-SLN-GLD-BJC - Picked up the Dakota in Tennessee and flew it home to Colorado

Goals for the next 100 hrs (in no particular order):
1) Maintain and improve the Dakota - 1 hour flight, 1 hour of work...
2) Mountain flying course - prolly in June
6) Get an instrument rating - well on the way- I think it will work out...haven't managed to bump into anything yet while flying around not looking out the window.
10) Thinking about a trip to FL to see shuttle launch. Work is slow now so it might just happen. Anyone want to ride along and share the ga$ bill?
11) Grand Canyon flight
12) get a touch-n-go at BKF - I've heard they'll let ya do one if nothing else is happening at the time. They do let folks use their airspace pretty freely.

Wannabe Class C Airports: 1 (KRFD: TRSA)
Class D Airports: 8 (KMWC, KOSH, KUES, KJVL, KCWA, KLAF, KDBQ, KLSE)

Airplanes I had Flown and Logged: 15
C-R172K: 1 (N736AR)
C-172: 5 (N6454J RIP*, N3421E, N734JS, N9002E, N105FS RIP*)

* RIP = Resting In Pieces. Crashed, but not by me. 8 aboard between the three airplanes, 1 fatality, 0 serious, 7 minor/uninjured.

Airplanes I'd Flown but Didn't Log: Hmmm. King Air 200. Can't remember any others - I don't think I had flown Lance's Baron yet at that point.

Different CFI's I'd Flown With: 8
Pax I'd flown: 20, one of whom later became a CFI and was one of the 8 and who I still use to this day.

Notable Flights:

First Flight: 5/5/2002, in N736AngryRat at Timmerman where I was working the line. I remember sitting at a red light on the way home, looking at the guy in the car next to me, and thinking "You, sir, are a mere mortal. *I* just flew an airplane." But, linemen don't make enough money to learn how to fly :( so I also had my...
Second "first" flight: 2/14/2003, in N6454Junk at MSN, with Phil Winiger who was later the DPE on my private and instrument rides. I got to do a power-off stall before we got chased back to the airport by a snowstorm, and Phil let me land the plane. Okay, Phil let me slam the plane into the ground.
First Actual IMC, first approach: 3/12/03. Yeah, I did things a little out of order from the way most folks do it.
First Solo: 3/31/03, in N3421E. A bit anticlimactic, honestly. Also, a bit bummed: Meigs Field was torn up the day before.
First Solo XC: 4/1/03, the day after my first solo. This was when I really felt gleeful. Flying for me has always been about going places, so this felt more first solo-ish. And yes, it was the day after my first solo: First solo was the morning of the 31st, first XC in the afternoon, second XC the next morning, first solo XC was that afternoon.
PPL Checkride: 5/12/2003, at 42.6 hours. Got checked out in a low-wing the very next flight. OK, I have no skin in the high vs. low wing game, I just wanted a larger selection of rental aircraft.
Most Memorable Flight: 11/8/03 and 11/9/03. My first truly long cross country, from Madison, WI to Lexington, KY, nearly 400nm. Had been worried about weather, being November, Wisconsin, and non-IR, but the weather was beautiful and I still have not flown in higher pressure. Altimeter settings for the weekend ranged from 30.69 up to 30.84. Also, with 2 pax in a club plane, I logged 8.8 hours for $16.79 per hour. On top of that, we were able to operate on a schedule the airlines couldn't match and got one of the pax down to Lexington in time for a meeting he had to attend (we were all going there for a banquet later in the evening), and got back in time for his son's hockey game the next day. Listened to him, at the next table during the banquet, rave about how wonderful the whole thing was. :) This is the flight that I talked about on episode 1 of the Pilot's Flight PodLog with Will Hawkins.
Longest Distance Flight: The one just mentioned. KMSN-KLAF-KLEX-KDNV-KMSN.

Goals for the next 100 hrs (in no particular order):
1) Tailwheel endorsement
2) CFI
3) Fly a glider again
4) Keep having fun and being safe.

Most Memorable Flight 2: 4/02/2002 SNJ-6 at Warbird Adventures Inc

Wow, great stories, everyone! It's really cool to see everyone's experiences! Keep them coming!

I also tried to follow PJ's format. This was an interesting exercise, probably much more so for me than for the people that will read it. Funny, I have no recollection of a lot of things.

I'm also including a picture I took late last year at Oakland International where I was based while I was taking lessons. It's a goofy picture but I had to take it because I never thought at the time that I had 100 hours that I would be back 30 years later in another kind of Cessna.

Most notable for being one I do not remember in any form was a check-out in the Cherokee above – 1:10 in the log book, Why I got checked out in it is beyond me.

Interesting (okay, embarrassing) looking at the average "dual received" figures and "PIC" figures... I was 5.5 dual, 1.8 solo away from my PPASEL check ride when I finished a log book page at 101.3. Took the check ride 2 weeks and 2 flights after passing 100 hours, and had to re-fly a portion of the practical almost 2 months after... kinda fitting end to a fitful and sporadic training period.
I have myriad excuses for the whole mess, but I'll admit I was not a "natural" by any stretch. The learning curve steepened, though. :D

I guess the breakdown is pretty average, percentage-wise, although I didn't do more than the bare minimum of hood and night time...
Total: 101.3
Dual: 69.2
Non-PIC solo: 23
Night (dual): 3.4
Simulated Instr: 2.4
X-C: 19.2 (12.6 solo X-C)

I haven't tallied up # of airports, airplanes, or landings before, but at 100 hours I had:

Airports: 14 total: 5 Class D, 1 class C, 8 uncontrolled

Aircraft: 5 C-172s, 3 C-152s, 1 C-150 (not logged: Piper J3, Piper PA-38)

Landings: 189

Go-arounds: enough that I didn't bend anything :D

I also checked to make sure I remembered correctly the number of instructors... not including stage checks, "fun flights" on vacation, and the check ride, I went through five.

Calendar time from start to the 100-hr mark was about 2.5 years.

Man, great topic, PJ- you have me wanting to leave work and run home, grab my gen-u-wine Cessna Pilot Center Pilot Logbook, and start aggregating and allocating.

Tonight...

...I really enjoy reading these!

Glad you like it Spike... I'm really enjoying reading everyone's posts as well.

I've been enjoying reading all these while I've been sitting around in airports all week; now I'm finally home I'll dig out my old log book. Mine is a lot less interesting than most of y'all. Lets see...

Hit 99.2hrs on 3/20/06 (didn't get to 101.2 until 1/4/07).

Memorable Flights:
First Solo: 1/19/04 in 512WW at 16.8TT. It was only my second time in the "brand new" and very shiny 1998 model 172, and I just barely beat out the sunset when I landed for the last time (after the compulsory first-solo-go-around because I was way too high on my first attempt).

PPL Ride: 5/27/04 in my favorite, 99930 with Lowell Weir at 44.2TT. Got delayed a couple days when the plane went down on mx; it was well worth the wait, though!

T-28 flight 4/17/05. I was working the line at Hap's during and after the Flying Cyclones' pancake breakfast. After the festivaties had subsided, the pilot asked if anyone wanted a ride. Didn't take me long to think about that. .5 hrs later, I had a smile that couldn't be removed to save my life. And I still had to go back to work!

First approach in actual: 5/19/04. It was a crap wx day, but we made the most of it. Probably one of the coolest things I had seen yet when we broke out after following those pesky needles and the damn airport was RIGHT THERE!

5/17/04: Instructor's notes - "40* bank, power off steep turn; shortfield ldg; in-flight fire, eng. failure on t/o" That was an interesting afternoon.

First pax: 6/9/04 at 50.8hrs - my roommate. Had to go around once because of heavy winds.

Summer '05: While working at Hap's I got to take quite a few flights in the 421, which is always fun, and I spent a lot of time over on the glider side. Mostly just dragging gliders around the field, but I went for a couple rides here and there. Probably one of the best flights I've had, still, was the time I was in the back seat of the Blanik with Tony. He says it was only about 3 hours, I'm pretty sure it was closer to 3 weeks. First, last, and only time I've ever started to feel airsick. Still a ton of fun, though!

Don't forget our first 421 flight where the right engnie decided to take a break. that was fun.

Summer 05 was a blast. Was that blanik flight that long? we were masters of the slow climb that day. 100 feet per minute seemed pretty fast.

That's right! I knew I had another engine failure that summer, I just couldn't remember when, and it's not in the logbook. That was a great feeling, being the only SE rated guy in the airplane and watching you to stare blankly at each other "What the hell was that?!?" That was a great flight, too.

I think it was in the high 2 or low 3 hour range. I don't remember...seems like an eternity ago! I wish I had counted the number of turns we made that day :vomit::redface:.

Well, I was right about there. At 100.5, I was 2.5 weeks and 6 hours of dual from my checkride on 5/28/04. No instrument approaches, over 300 landings, an hour of actual instrument (including a touch of ice), and nothing but 172's except an hour intro flight in a Beech Sundowner (which I don't even have logged, but in which I did a low pass over Meigs, and was the only time I got to do such, as it was criminally destroyed three months before I began training with two separate flights on 6/27/03), and an hour in a Cessna 310.

I'll update this with the actual stats later, if I'm not too embarrassed.
For example, I had almost 40 hours at first solo on 11/1/03.

Not sure what you mean by "Non-PIC solo" though!?

My first 100 wasn't nearly as interesting as many of you but apparently it was much easier to compile - other than making the screenshots to post the info, it took only a few seconds.

Most memorable flights:
- Taking my daughter up. She was rather scared before we started but her comment on landing was - with a big grin - "I'm ready to go again!"
- Every flight with someone who isn't a pilot. (Maybe I've just been lucky so far.)

Goals for the next 100: (not shooting high but I just fly for fun)
- Tailwheel endorsement.
- Get checked out in a low-wing.
- Get to 200 within the next year.
And, to steal one from iMultiRatedi:
- Keep having fun and being safe.

I have to dig out the logbook tomorrow when I am not half asleep so I can handle the arithmetic portion of this exercise, stay tuned for what will likely be a whole lot of 172 time. Great thread, I have enjoyed reading this one all the way through!

I was wondering about that one too. :dunno:

No, just that the rest of us who use e-logbooks just typed in the results instead of copying the graphics. ;)

back before the 1997 (I think) Pt 61 re-write, solo time as a student pilot did not count towards PIC requirements. After the re-write, it doesn, and I believe that the reg was backward compatible, i.e. you can now count student solo time as PIC time on the 8710.

Yes... it seems odd that the only person in a flying airplane might not be legally PIC, but that's how I considered my student solo work (all before mid-1997) in my post. I guess technically a student alone would be "pilot in command"... a least they'd better be. :D

My first 100 hrs were fairly boring...

Pretty easy to figure out that I got my private and immediately started working on my instrument. Only real notable flights were my checkride and taking my parents up for their first flight with me.

I do believe this is correct. I started flying in 1997 and all my student solo time does not count towards my PIC time, hence non-PIC solo time. I think it changed later in 1997 since I passed my ride in Oct '97.
