Movie quotes and your flying

I always loved the John Wayne line from High and the Mighty:

"Now I lay me down to sleep" spoken as they break out on the ILS to SFO.

"Hello Houston...we have a problem.

"Help, help, help" cries the cute stewardess. "Both pilots are unconcious, can anyone fly the plane?"

"Well ma'am, I've flown many a plane"....

..... in many aspects models require much more exacting designs and can be less forgiving than full-size aircraft.......

I told you there would be no difficulty in building this aeroplane. I also told you it would require an outstanding pilot to fly it. The only thing outstanding about you, Mr. Towns, is your stupidity.

Flight of the Phoenix (1965)

"Did you know he checks his sanity with a stopwatch?"

"What do you check yours with, a dipstick???"

- Blue Thunder

Ron Wanttaja

"I told Orville and I told Wilbur.....damn thing will never get off the ground"

Spoken by the dispatcher in High and the Mighty.

" A monoplane? Are you telling me you’re building me an airplane with only one wing?"

YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!
OH MY GOD!!!!!

Sorry I pretty much only watch porn movies so I don't have a good frame of reference.

How has no one quoted airplane yet?

My favorite I use with other crew members all the time is "good luck, we're all counting on you" - Airplane!

Oh ****!

- pretty much every movie ever

Surely you can't be serious?

It's time to kick the tires and light the fires! Independence Day.

Elwood Blues: It’s 106 miles to Chicago, we’ve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses.
Jake Blues: Hit it!

"I've only had two lessons" ....

"then you're the pilot!"

(then proceeds to expertly fly the 421 through ash clouds and buildings in the movie 2012)

It was a C340A.

"If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious @#&!"

"I have a bad feeling about this."
-Star Wars (all of them)

Proper etiquette dictates answering a quote with a quote. This is especially so when Airplane, The Movie is being discussed.

Observe: it's not "Bro...." It's, 'you picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue'.

What can you make of this?

(BTW: in the OP I almost put the restriction of 'nothing from Top Gun' but I didn't like the idea of constraints. Lo and behold, the very next post... :mad2:

Actually, there was one:

"It's an entirely different kind of flying. Altogether."

-- If you don't know this one, turn in your pilot card.

Though, I think it is a little too obscure to require a turning in of your pilot cards. Now, some of the other ones, especially Top Gun ... yeah, that's a different story.

"Was it a dream where you see yourself standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you?" - Real Genius

Not an aviation movie, but it's kind of how I feel when I fly, so ...

"nothing too wrong with this dead reckoning navigation... except maybe the name." - 1957, The Spirit of St. Louis (Jimmy Stuart as Charles Lindbergh)
