I have an employee that is leaving our group and going to another. I'd like to get him a thank you gift from our group. He rides a motorcycle and thought it would be nice to get him something for that. Problem is I know nothing of riding. Any ideas of something we could get him? I know we have plenty of riders on here.

If he drinks whiskey or scotch, I'd go there. A rider's idea of a useful accessory may be completely different from that of even another rider. Akin to gifting shoes or underwear.

Sac's idea isn't half bad. We don't know what he rides, how he likes to ride, etc., and most motorcyclists are picky about what gear and accessories they buy. If you want to do something motorcycle, I'd advise something like a gift card to Revzilla or similar, then he can pick something he likes.

I find gift cards to be generally a cop-out gift, but maybe a gift card to one of the big motorcycle retailers makes sense? I only know about Chaparral Motorsports in SoCal, but I am sure there are others.

Indeed, but as an avid motorcyclist of 35+ years, I'm pretty picky as to what gear and accessories I want to use, so in this instance a gift card is likely the better gift. I know that I've gotten some moto related gifts that were nice, but didn't fit any need and were either returned or quietly eBay'd or Craigslisted.

I’ll agree with the gift card. One option I’ll also suggest if he doesn’t have it is a motorcycle specific GPS. I got one around Black Friday and am really enjoying it.

I'll be the dozenth person to chime in and say - motorcycling is too twitchy. You have dirt, cruisers, sport tourers, track guys, Harley-or-Die types, Anything-but-a-Harley-or-die.

A Gift Card for CycleGear should please anyone.

Else, Scotch.

I believe he has a Honda Shadow, if that helps.
Well, that probably means he's secure in his manhood. Not a fringe-wearing Harley rider, not a racer boi on a crotch rocket, lol. Just a simple fuel efficient bike that's been made for decades.

I got the bag for stuff, a windshield, crash bar & a bit of gear.

One thing I added last year or so is a cellphone holder that attaches to the handlebars. It’s got an ‘anti-vibration’ feature, secure, hasn't slid down the road yet. It’s for navigation, unfamiliar routes. It sure beats stopping to check directions. They have a bunch on Amazon & elsewhere, $20 or so.

I know what it is. It was the smoother running far cheaper clone. I applaud the guy for riding one as many think a Shadow (or similar) isn't "manly" enough to keep and ride.

I have a family member that has a Honda Shadow. Been a fantastic ride for him. Oil changes and tires is about all it's ever needed ... and you can park it on the pavement and not worry about spotting. ;)

There is that. Not having the compulsion to be a Brand Name Harley Droid. But I wouldn't put the Shadow on the shelf with "...just a simple fuel efficient bike..."

Lol. We used to sprinkle grains of rice under those. Got some sprinkled under the Rice Rocket I had once.

Well they started life as mostly 500-650cc cruisers. While it's not 250cc small, compared to modern stuff at 900-1200cc it's pretty light and efficient. I know they eventually got into the bigger engines later in the production runs, but the VTX pretty much took over that category from the Shadow.

Lol. Hadn't heard of that one.

That’s because I just thought of it. ;)

My first 6 months with my Triumph Daytona were spent getting the leaks stopped. I swear, the only fluids the British understand are tea and beer.

Hey. I had one of them. A 73 if I remember right. Last year of right side shift and left side brake. Ya could put tea under there and the oil would just wash it away. My hands are getting numb just thinking about it. That buzzing vibration was bad. But dang, it was fun to ride.

I’ve only owned Triumphs from the restart period.

a 96 Thunderbird, 01 Trophy 1200, 01 Speed Triple.

They all held their fluids just fine. (when not being run over by a semi-truck)

My dad’s 75 T160, on the other hand…

I've never met a rider who couldn't use a pair of gloves. You have to know the fellow's glove size though. That said, I myself like @Sac Arrow's idea, provided you know the fellow drinks.

I was thinking of making him a biker gang jacket called the Data Diablos. Bad to the bone, right?

:D

Gloves are ok if they’re what i use, otherwise they will quietly disappear. I buy the glove I like on closeout, still have two new pairs in the gear closet for when the present pair wear out.
