My uncle lost his medical and is selling his beautiful 1996 Mooney Ovation.

1205 TTAF, 1205 SNEW, speed brakes, built-in oxygen, McCauley 3-blade heated prop.

Radios: KLN 89B IFR GPS, Argus 7000CE moving map, KC192 autopilot with altitude preselect, Garmin GTX327 transponder, BFG Strikefinder, GEM Insight engine monitor, Shadin fuel flow, and Artex 406MHz ELT.

For my "someday airplane" I'm looking more in the $120K range. Or less. Preferably lots less so I can have two airplanes. ;)
 
Way too much money for me. Probably right for the plane, but my wife would not be happy (understatement of the year). And PWT is so close by to take a look, too. Somebody will be happy with that plane.
 
Sorry the Mooney I want is an M20E. Still, utterly gorgeous, and an order of magnitude out of my league.

Yup. It's a really nice bird, pictures don't do it justice.

Kent, first sorry to hear about your uncle. Second the plane is a beauty alas way out of my budget. You might want to recommend to the estate that the price has remained at $184,500 for a year and if they are looking to move it well you got it. Again sorry for your loss.

Regarding the plane, how do YOU fit in it? I only sat in a Mooney at AirVenture, and it was tight for me, though I don't recall which model it was.

If it's been sitting for a few months, perhaps you need to go out to Washington and give it some exercise.

I haven't flown it yet, but I have flown the smaller M20J and found it to be one of the most comfortable airplanes I've flown. Al Mooney was 6'5" after all... An inch taller than me! So the Mooneys have excellent legroom.

If it's been sitting for a few months, perhaps you need to go out to Washington and give it some exercise.

Two friends of my uncle's have been keeping it exercised since his diagnosis last January... It's not a hangar queen, I wouldn't let that happen to such a beautiful bird!

I am the new, temporary caretaker of this excellent airplane - I went out to Washington and picked it up and flew it back to Wisconsin over the weekend. It's been flying regularly, but I hope to make it even more regular. ;)

I will be flying it in to Oshkosh on Friday evening and it'll be there for the whole show. If anyone is interested in taking a look, please call my cell at (414) 305-2447 - It'll be locked and covered when I'm not present.

FWIW - I had it up to FL190 to get over some weather early in the flight. Later on, when I was able to pay more attention to performance, I was getting 180KTAS on 12.2 gph! It flies like it's on rails, and between the speed and all the extras (my favorites being the flight director and built-in oxygen) it makes for a VERY nice traveling machine. I flew well over 1500nm in a day, a new personal record for me, but it's a lot easier to do when you're going so fast. I also flew from Sheridan, WY to West Bend, WI - 834nm plus some sightseeing as flown - in a single leg. What a great traveling machine!

I just came up with the most perfect idea for me to get some time in it. Turn in all your certificates to the FAA. Tell them you're done flying.

Then come to Nebraska and redo all your certificates with me.

Well, I guess I'd hate me too! It's been just a tad difficult not to go sit at the hangar and just do nothing, simply because I can. But, I have a lot to learn and do before OSH so I'm working on that instead. The plane was meticulously maintained and cared for, and I want to keep it to the same standard that my uncle did. I joined the Mooney Aircraft Pilots Association to gain access to their resources and other Mooney owners. The plane is nicer than the ads give it credit for, so I'm going to create some new flyers to put up at OSH and also distribute at various airports when I'm flying around. Lots to learn about the avionics and such as well.
 
Well I'll just add this. Kent, I'm pretty sure your Uncle would be smiling down on you if he knew that you were taking care of his bird. You may suck but your doing the estate a great service. How many planes in estates just sit and rot?

EXACTLY!!! When I was in Bremerton, I was saddened by the number of planes I saw in states of disrepair - A Cherokee that had pine sap all over it, a 310 missing an engine and prop, an otherwise-beautiful Comanche with flat tires, another Cherokee missing a tail cone... I think at least half of the planes on the ramp were visibly unairworthy. :(

My uncle took VERY good care of the airplane - I knew that when I first saw it a few years ago. The bugs were cleaned off after each flight, the interior was spotless... But I didn't really know how good until I went out to visit and pick it up. My aunt said he tried to fly it at least once a week, and that he'd spend the entire day at the airport. There were specific cleaning products and towels for each part of the plane. He had two cigarette lighter plugs added into the baggage compartment so he could plug two battery minders into it (there are two batteries on it, switchable on the panel). The documentation was very organized and thorough, with brochures and manuals for every piece of equipment in the plane, even if it was installed at the factory. There were materials from the two Mooney Aircraft Pilots Association pilot proficiency programs he'd attended and one of their maintenance classes as well.

So... There was no way in hell I'd let that plane become a hangar queen. It's been flown a couple of times a month by two of my uncle's friends, but it needs to get out more and in front of more people - It's hard to get across the level of care that was taken with it in an ad. Pictures don't do it justice. I predict that the person who buys the plane is going to see it in person first, so it needs to get in front of more people and it needs to have the same meticulous care taken with it. That's what I'm here for!
 
So Kent, are you going to camp with it at OSH? And now that you've had a chance to fly it, how do you fit in it? Based on the length of some of your legs, I'd guess pretty well! If we had that kind of money to spend on a plane, it would probably be on the short list! (Oops, is that getting to close to the "commenting on the value" in the Classifieds?:dunno:)

I could be wrong but I'm fairly certain that if you took the plane to Lincoln NE, and left the keys with a certain CFI who's professed to hate your guts, the plane would get decent exercise and there'd be some sort of metamorphosis from hate to love.

It's cozy but comfortable. As with most Mooneys, TONS of legroom in the front seats! This one, being one of the long-body models, even has enough legroom for adults in the back seats. I had 4 people on board yesterday - Me at 6'4", my brother at 6'2", my sister-in-law at about 5'11", and her mother at maybe 5'9". (Didn't have much of a fuel load, though! :no:)

I am getting awfully spoiled, seeing a 25-knot headwind and still getting better than 150 knots across the ground is nice!
