Mooney crash-West Virginia 10/24/2019

Looks like there was a lot of energy in that one. Mooney’s are tough cookies.

For a Mooney to break up like that suggests that all sorts of stuff went wrong. Lots of energy and something other than a wings level attitude. They are basically the strongest light airplane you can find.
 
It was the initial wood wing model. Maybe that was a factor in the way it came apart. That said, you are going to have a bad day if you smack a conventional Mooney with an aluminum wing that hard.
