As background, Karen's right hip started bothering her a few years back. The x-ray showed bone-on-bone contact and a new hip would be required eventually, and that she'd know when it was time to scream "Uncle"!

Anyway, that day arrived and a couple weeks ago she committed to the surgery. When scheduling, the orthopedic surgeon asked if we were superstitious. Karen said, "No...are YOU?". Since nobody appeared to be superstitious we scheduled for Friday the 13th.

She was a trouper 'til the end - just a couple weeks ago we flew the Sky Arrow up to Indiana to visit friends...

Yesterday, the "before"picture, having second thoughts...

After, already texting her friends...

Anyway, recovery and physical therapy will not be a walk in the park (except when it literally is), but its miraculous that we live in times when such procedures are relatively routine.

She's at Union County Hospital in Blairsville, GA. If you want to send her your best wishes, probably best bet would be via this thread. If all goes well she'll be home Monday at the latest.

She's my brave little soldier!

Hands up, don't cut!! #brokenhipsmatter

Speedy recovery and take her somewhere nice on the first flight.

It's amazing what they can do now, here's to a quick recovery.

Well now. That is a nifty pilot's wife sweatshirt! And I like the smiles. Here's to a smooth recovery!

Got my right hip replaced in 2005 and wished I had done it sooner. What a life changer!

Good luck and a swift recovery to your bride!

Congratulations!! I wish her a speedy recovery! Don't let her slack on the silly rehabilitation stuff they make you do it really does make a big difference.

Glad the missus is doing fine, Eddie!!

The advances they have made in joint replacement are amazing. I had a full knee replacement (due to an injury) on December 29th, 2014. Was up walking (albeit with a walker) that same night. Walking with a cane a week later. Walking sorta normal a week after that. Within a month walking normal.

I'll second what was recommended above - - make sure she does what the physical therapist tells her to do and don't miss any appointments!!

Wishing your Bride a speedy recovery!!!

Had my hip done after an accident in 86 and did the revision (new hip) in 09. Now if the knees hold out I'll be ok.

Best wishes, my close friend had to have both replaced 6 months apart, he was in a very bad car wreck 29 years ago and did his best to delay it, whatever it took. Got to the point it was either hip replacements or a wheelchair, reality finally hit home.

Recovery after his first one was a breeze but the second one probably took about 50% longer.

Glad she's smiling! Wishing her a speedy recovery.
