Maybe not, we live more and more in an instant gratification world, if you can't get what you want right away it's not worth the effort..Persistence is not a strong characteristic in most people.
but to look at it a little more objectively.. for the time and money and effort it takes to become a professional pilot only to earn pathetic wages for several years you could go to management school and get a starting salary $70K-$80K and earn those same "airline pilot wages" within a few years and then likely pass them.. not to mention being home every night for dinner
You have to really *really* want to fly big planes for a living
