It was reported in the Sun Sentinel that a Vans aircraft on a flight from Spruce Creek to Boca has gone missing. As this is all over land, I would expect that someone has seen it or wreckage by now. The pilots license was said to have been revoked some tim ago, so that may be why a flight plan was not filed. Maybe he decided to go out to sea, or over the Everglades and something happened there.

And lots of planes disappear, not to be found for days or even years.

True a C180 on floats crashed about 14 years ago not far from Juneau I think the wreckage was found last year

Lancair 320, N670BS. Pilot identified as 87 year old Brendan Spratt.

The U.S. Coast Guard received a report from the Federal Aviation Association at about 12:30 p.m. saying the plane was last reported missing 17 miles southeast of Boca Raton.
17 miles southeast of Boca Raton is the Atlantic Ocean. Kathryn's Report is reporting the pilot is deceased. RIP.

Hardly anyone ever files a flight plan for VFR. A flight plan is necessary to fly IFR, but all a VFR flight plan does is give them a route to search for wreckage if you don’t show up.

Not sure the OPs link between license and flight plans. Hmmmm.

OP appears to be a new user and probably has no aviation background. The media picks up on such details and tries to connect the dots into something sinister. Just like every GA accident that "Did not have a flight plan.". For you and me that's just noise, to the uninitiated that sounds off.

The aircraft in question is a Lancair, not a Vans. At Mr. Spratt's age, it is very possible that he suffered an incapacitating medical even, and the aircraft eventually went into the ocean. For that short of a flight, it's not at all uncommon for no flight plan to be filed.

Took a year to find Steve Faucett, and only then because a hiker bumped into the wreckage.

We found Scott O’ Gradys F-16 four years after the shoot down with Aim-9’s attached on a Bosnian hillside purely by accident...no attempt to recover but did bring in eod to blow the ordinance...lots of places things can get lost even with an extensive search.

While it's possible the OP fell into the groundhog media trap you describe, I took it to mean a guy whose certificate has been revoked probably wouldn't want his name or intentions in front of anyone affiliated with the FAA, even Leidos.

Famous quotes....

The fewer the posts, the higher the intelligence...

Actually you missed that quote by a smidgen. It's very close to what Possum posted i.e.
"The less you speak the smarter people will think you are."

I post quite a bit because I ain't smart enough to know better, and I don't care what people think about me. I can't control that. :happydance:

I love what I read recently.

We have one mouth, but two ears so we should be quicker to listen.

But now people have taken this to heart with their ten fingers.
