Meet at the airport first and go over together or just at the resturant?

I might be able to make this one. :goofy::D

Airport

I would love to come, but broke my shoulder 2 months ago, and have been scheduled with the CFI last Sunday and this Sunday. The weather sucks. I don`t think I`ll have any trouble flying, it`s the getting out that has me concerned. Maybe next time you could plan on a Sunday. That`s the best day for me to get the rental plane.
Have a great time, maybe they lied about the weather.

Linda

If the weather's good I'll be there. I've been sooooo busy workwise not only have I not flown since Sept., but I only get to check this website about once a week as well.

Cross my fingers, no lake effect snow!

Hmm....sounds interesting, although 284 nm is quite a distance.

OK. Got it on my calendar. :p

I'm in! I should get home Friday night so I reserved the 182 for Saturday.

Where is this place... Right across the street, or do we need a ride? (Just in case of, uh, extreme headwinds... Yeah, that's it... I'm never late!)

Mike, this may be the much-anticipated first meeting of Pilotcast hosts! I'll bring my iPod. ;)

They're saying we'll get a balmy 40-50 degrees.

Partly cloudy, strong gusty southwest winds and warmer. Highs could approach 50° depending upon cloud cover.

If we decide to face those winds it's gonna be bumpy and a slow trip back.

Plane check,
Carolyn check,
Foggels check,
Weather.... hopefully check.

I'm ready and I'm going to get a bit of Instrument time in too. :goofy:
We'll be in 47907 the same plane I had up in Mio.

Missa

My brother is driving in from WV with his wife to spend time with my family before christmas, so I can't make it.

Very sorry, I hope you all have a good time!

Snow and mist at these temps? Sounds like an icicle in the making.

It's loooooking good. Winds forecast to be 220 @10G18

I think runway 18 is doable. Its a 33 minute flight plan for me. :p

It's 18 degrees F at Palwaukee.

I'm off.

Now with the required pre-heat, pre-flight and the usual delays I'll be there at 4PM.

You mean you're not coming?

I guess that's lake effect snow which hits the east - southeast coasts of the lake. All DUATS just showed me was short-term scattered clouds at 3000 AGL.

I will scrub the mission if nobody else is going.

Don't think I'm going Mike - Clouds down to 1,500 and snow are supposed to be at DPA by 3:00pm. I note O'Hare is saying 4:00pm so you might make it back.

I don't like flying in the clouds in winter.

Carolyn and I were going to give it a try, the computer weather data was giving spotty low clouds and radar was showing lake effect snow, but the breifer said he had been watching the clouds break up all morning and what was showing as lake affect snow on the radar wasn't hitting the gound so he thought it was just upper level mositure. But after RightSaidFred decided to call off, the specter of cleaning 6" of snow and maybe ice off a plane in a tie down was just too much and we decided to stay where it was warm.

Missa

I scrubbed....and then learned that I should pay more attention to the ENTIRE forecast. You had it right. It looked good - clear and sunny. Then it snowed and we had low clouds.

If I had been over the lake on way home...

Don't know when it started where you are but the snow and clouds beat the forecast by a good 2 hours here. By 1:00pm it was IFR to minimums at DPA.

We have not had a strongbow fly in a while as evidenced by this email from 2005!!

Lots of people have joined the board since then and maybe we should have another
:dunno::dunno:

What do y'all think?

We were thinking of going to Rick's Cafe in Indianapolis this Saturday (8/16/2008), but so far no one else at the club has shown an interest. Maybe Valpo instead?

I'll have to check for plane availability. Lunch or Dinner?

BTW, this weekend is the Chicago Air & Water Show, so don't plan on flying down the lakefront! I think that the Blue Angels base out of Gary (GYY).

Yep most of the lakefront and KGYY will be a TFR. But why does that mean I can't fly down the lake front??? ;)

I was thinking lunch BTW

I have a plane reserved... 1:00 works better for me, but 1:30 is ok.

I said 1300 as in thirteen hundred hours or 1pm. I was giving Grant a little lip that he may have meant 1:00 as in 1am or 0100 hours. ;)

So 1pm, at VPZ we have Grant, Leslie, David, me and maybe a guest.

Who else?

Would love to get a few of the Michigan guys to come down and visit!

Barb, Ray, etc??

Just to clarify, I mean 1300 CENTRAL. I just checked, and KVPZ Porter County is also central, but I thought I'd mention it just in case, since IN is INconsistent WRT time zones.

Of course, since we'd already established that we were discussing LUNCH time, that wasn't really necessary, was it?:rofl:

If I don't get a phone call tonight to play in a softball tournament for tomorrow, it could be a good excuse to pop the top on the new ride and cruise down the lakeshore to meet youse guys.

Oh, and make the times in zulu so there's no confusion on which timezone and whether it's daylight or standard.

OK -- good thing I checked on the time!

I am planning to be there, plus a friend. I'll be flying N8262S (a rented piper archer).

Meet at the airport and organize a ride to lunch together?

--david

I'd love to be there but I have an appointment to put down my very old barn cat tomorrow. I'd much rather go flying. The only good thing about tomorrow is it will eliminate my raccoon problem but on the bad side, no more good raccoon stories.

Barb

Ohhh, sorry to hear that, Barb! But how will putting down the cat eliminate the raccoon problem?

We'll miss you at 1800Z at KVPZ, where we'll apparently gather to get over to Strongbow. I've never been there, so am relying on Scott for logistics. Is it walkable, or do we need a ride?

We will need a ride. I have never flown in without already having ground support so this will be a little new to me as well. I am pretty sure we can borrow the crew car.

I'll PM you my cellphone number

The WX looks wonderful. Iw illbe taking off early, about 11am and shoot a few approaches before I and my pax arrive at VPZ.

Remember y'all to avoid the lake front and GYY today as there are TFRs for the Chciago Air and Water show.
