Midwest POA Breakfast Meetup Thread

Alright June is upon us. I was going to suggest the Benton, IL (H96) second Saturday food truck fly in/ car show June 11.

However, it's also been a while since we've been close to Chicago, which seems to produce the best turn out. Rochelle (RPJ), Schaumburg (06C).... thoughts?

I change the title every month and update the first post with a link to the current discussion. My thinking is that then everyone who has posted in the thread at some point should get a notification. Maybe I'm stupid, but that's what I've been doing.

I’m out June 11. I’ll be yacht racing ~3nm off of Navy Pier. But if you all come up, definitely do some low passes over us! (At 500 AGL or better of course)

How tall are the boats... you know so I can make sure I'm 500' from any person, structure, or vessel....

Haha, on some boats they have a “Mast” position, but we’re organizing different. I float between bow, trimmer, or pit.
 
Got the scheduled locked down for the 11th. So no one will have to pick me up this time!!

I just realized June marks 1 year of midwest Saturday gatherings. I think we've pulled off 5 lol :rolleyes:. One of those was just @masloki and myself. I think @EdFred currently holds the record for the longest flight when he flew 2 hours to meet us at MTO.

Neither does tomorrow.
 
The only issue with Rochelle, Schaumburg and Bolingbrook is they are single runway deals. My plan for today was Rochelle brunch but that got shot to heck with 12G28 direct xwinds. We should be past this N/S stuff by June - should be better. Rochelle doesn’t do breakfast Saturday though. Lunch on Saturday or Sunday brunch or lunch are the options. That said, I can only do Saturday, June 11 that weekend.
 
Hearing no objections and a couple in favor, I'm going to invite everyone to H96 on the 11th. Food trucks will be serving 9AM-1PM.

I went to one last year; there was probably a dozen planes and a couple dozen cars at any one time. The airport manager flies a Cherokee 6 and teaches A&P's at SIU. Their avgas is one of the cheapest in the state. I'll probably get there around 10 and stay a couple hours. If anyone wants to meet at CMI and ride down with me I'd be happy to accommodate.
 
I'll be in Louisville winning some money.

We ain't had a Michigan lunch fly-in either.

I wasn’t here when Bessie’s was talked about but i have wanted to go there. My daughter also wants us to go to the Waco Kitchen in Battle Creek, MI

I have drive by the Benton IL airport hundreds of time and have never seen an airplane land, take off or parked , nice airport, they need some activity.

Recently? I've stopped there for fuel 3 or 4 times in the past year or two and there's always been at least one more plane. They've built t- hangars, a terminal building, and added fuel and a crew car in the last few years. I think it was pretty dead and the current manager took over and has been working hard to build it up.

Bring that 195 up next weekend!

I don't like that airport. The people are fine - I'm talking the physical environment. Just rubs me wrong... Same goes for PWK...

Old terminal building is super cool. I used the grass runway... there's (or at least was) a helluva hump where it crosses the asphalt RW.... ask me how I know. I was glad I had the front wheel pretty light... and that it was a club plane....
