Long story about why this came to be, but I had to reinstall the operating system on my hard drive. I saved every file on the drive to another computer before doing that, and I've recovered almost everything, but I need to transfer the files where Outlook keeps its connection data and email/contact data. Can anyone tell me which files those are, and where they should go?

Mine are in

c:\users\steve\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Office 2007, Windows Vista

Edit: That's the messages file (Outlook.pst). I think contacts are in there too. I think connection information is in the registry

for a windows XP machine, C:\Documents and Settings\rwn\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

On Vista, the location is usually

C:\users\[account name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

and the file usually is Outlook.pst.

If you have multiple user accounts, each will have their own .pst file.

There may be multiple .pst files. Usually the most recently modified one is the one you want, and it's usually the biggest one, as well.
