Like others, I had several failed download attempts before finally getting it installed. I pre-ordered the Premium-Deluxe version from the MS store and the download nightmare was one of the worse experiences I've ever had!
That said, the sim is highly impressive! Visually, aircraft sounds as well as flight models. So far I've tried several GA planes (Cub,172, SR22, Bonanza, TBM, etc). All are incredible for default aircraft! Rudder sensitivity is probably the biggest issue and should be one of their first priorities. Way too sensitive and jerky. Not smooth at all, even after playing with the sensitivity settings.
First thing I did was fly over my house and neighborhood in North Jersey.
WOW!
Track IR works flawlessly as well as my YOKO yoke, TQ6+, rudder pedals, hotas Warthog stick & throttle. My Desktop Aviator switch panel only partially works (Mag key switch inop), all other switches work. My Realsimgear G1000 isn't compatible yet (they're working on it).
I like the option to select and pre-download scenery areas to your PC, with three levels of detail available. Low, Medium and High.
I'm running a 4TB HDD and a 1TB SSD. I7-7700k OC@5Ghz, 32gb DDR4, RTX2080ti.
Having flown my first MSFS version on a Commodore-64 (back in 1983) as a 17 year old kid, flying around Meigs Field, I couldn't have imagined seeing this level of detail on a home PC.
The weather--wind, turbulence, clouds and rain...OMG!
Speaking of Meigs, I have to see if they included it. If not, I'm sure ORBX will.
I hopped over to JFK to check if they programmed the "rabbit" for the Canarsie Approach. Nope, what a disappointment. I was really hoping to finally see a flightsim with the curving lead-in approach lights modeled. Oh well, maybe ORBX or some other third party developer will do it eventually.
Overall, I'm highly impressed with the initial release and I'm looking forward to updates/optimizations and of course VR support for my Rift-S.
