If someone got their 3rd class medical and then stopped flying for a while (assume medical expires), could they solo, complete their training, and take their check ride under BasicMed?

Actually, after July 1, 2004 would do the job.

The requirement is to have held a medical after July 14, 2006. A medical issued in July 2004 would still be valid and held in July 2006.

Unless, of course, your medical had an SI that expired sooner.

Did mine with Basicmed. It’s just much easier and valid longer for us guys over 40.
