My pet peeve on this theme... ...some LHR retailers require you to scan your boarding pass in order to checkout.The retailer then uses the info to not pay any sales tax on purchases made by passengers leaving the EU. In exchange for the extra checkout hassle passed on to customers, they pocket an extra 20% margin.
