There is a small private airport community near Golden, MO (MO32) that has several lots around the runway. The runway is owned by an individual and all lots have covenant rights to use the runway.

The owner sold the property with the runway on it a few months ago. The new owner is trying to force the lot owners to pay a usage fee so he can make some money on his investment. The lot owners refused and so the guy pulled a Mayor Daley and took a backhoe and dug up the runway.

One owner was out flying when this happened and had to land at another airport. Two others have airplanes they can't use and one is trying to sell his.

They have filed suit against the guy, but it could be tied up in court for some time.
You might expect this from someone who hates aviation, but this new owner is a pilot! :mad3:

What kind of pilot would dig up a runway?

>I get the feeling that the new owner is not a pilot.

from the original post: "but this new owner is a pilot!"

Are you sure the lot owners got "deeded access" to the runway specified in their title?

If not the new owner does own the land (runway) and it is his to do as he pleases.

20 years ago I was looking at a lot adjacent to a municipal airport to build a hangar on. I asked about deeded access and was told it was not included, but don't worry, they would never deny access. I passed on the deal for that reason. Now the city that owns the airport has those hangar owners paying $900/year for airport access and they are all up in arms, but legally there is nothing they can do.

Buyer beware.

Do you have a link to the article?

BTW Mayor Daley does have a brother, 3 brothers to be exact. He also has 3 sisters.

God help us....

The one brother being William Daley who was the Secretary of Commerce under Clinton that greased allowing Chicago to pay back the 25 year Airport Improvement Program money and dump the obligation on Meigs. THAT money BTW, mainly came from Chicago Dept of Aviation landing fees.

Bill was supposed to have a role in the Obama administration but I think he's making a fortune in private industry now. Last I heard he was at a bank (Citi? The only one to not pass the stress test.)

Among other significant news ...
Mayor Daley's Michigan house made news in 1992. The mayor's son Patrick was a teenager at the time, and held an unsupervised party at the house where a fight broke out.
