Making of a merlin

What impresses me the most is that all of manufacturing was done with out any CNC machinery. Every component manually measured and machined to fractions of an inch.

My Warner was made the same way, the fit and finish has no equal to a hand made engine.

Would OSHA have a fit about carrying a crusable full of molten metal with no protective gear ?

no eye protection for the milling machine operators?

open exhaust in the test cell?

Hmmmm I thought the presence of the digital counter was suspect but otherwise that is a very cool video...

I saw craftsmen...

Precision machining IS possible without CNC's it just takes more skill. About 10 years ago, I worked with an 80 year old Danish guy who could run a Bridgeport to +-.0002 all day long.

CNC's allow you to machine to the same tollerances using a half-trained teenage kid.
