10 years ago, I stood on the side of the streets of NYC watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade with my family. Thirty days from today, I will be marching in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with the Purdue “All-American” Marching Band. Mark your calendars and watch as we parade through Manhattan on Thanksgiving Day. Tune into NBC at 9am for full Macy’s coverage! Please pass the word to your friends and family. :goofy:

Having marched in way too many parades at various locations and at various times during the year....bring thermal underwear, just in case. And an extra pair of dry socks.

Of course, since you're at Purdue, you already know about cold.

Have fun!

So what high school band cancelled, and opened up that slot :ihih:

Jason, JOOC is there a story about the UW band and boiler Pete floating around Purdue????

Wisconsin Band '94-'98

Har, har har. In serious, it was a pretty long audition process which took place about 2 or 3 years ago, before I even arrived on campus. We're a huge band this year as well...373 total.

Not that I can recall, but maybe I'll find out in two weeks. The Wisconsin band heads to boiler country a week from Saturday to make an appearance at our next home game. :D

Yeah but flags, and flutes don't count :D

Good you'll get to see what a real band looks like :cool2:

Just wondering beacuae we had to stop doing mascot pile-ons after we broke Pete's collar bone. I was on the bottom of the pile on, and I can tell you that it got a bit out of hand.

Seriously though have fun in NYC.

And cut a piece of Moleskin to put inside your sock where the back of your shoe hits your Achilles.

Long parades suck.

Even worse - long parade followed by a football game...quick concert in the parking lot for the Big Money Alumni, then pre-game, half-time then post-game. And somewhere in there, we got lunch, but I don't remember when. I think it was box lunches on the bus to the stadium.

Take it from a former road-marching leg infantry soldier with skin that never callouses -- wear thin polypropolene socks as the first layer, then new quality wool socks over that.

No blisters, comfortable through a wide temperature range, and your feet will be happy!

Dude, totally old school. The whole 2 layer thing is so 1980. Todays hiking socks and boots are designed specifically to be worn without liner socks. (Try them, they do work. I found this out when some young buck at REI found me searching for liner socks and set me straight. I was suspicious, but they work.) :cornut:

Jason. I hate parades. I really hate the Thanksgiving parade. Now I'm going to be forced to watch it to see if I can pick you out in the crowd. Thanks for nothing. :incazzato::incazzato:

Kidding - well, not about hating parades, but I'll be looking for you. That should be a blast. Fingers crossed for good weather.

Drymax socks.
Or, Injinji - if you're prone to blistering between your toes.
(But, I wouldn't know anything about these things... :rolleyes2: )

You've been around long enough to know what works for you. Enjoy!!! :D

I just got back from our trip to NYC and have to be up super early tomorrow for a home football game but all I can say is that it was an absolutely amazing experience to march in the parade, let alone lead the entire Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. It was a great trip with some of my closest friends and one I will remember for a lifetime.

I hope you all had a safe and restful Thanksgiving. Happy Holidays!!

Best,
Jason

Very cool Jason. I saw blurbs of it while I was watching the real parade in Philly :) I kept looking for you. Glad you had a blast. Be Well!!!

HEY!!! You just shush up about us flag type people. You can go ahead and say what ever you please about flutes, though.

Congrats, Jason!

The school bands were the only parts of NBC's parade coverage that didn't suck, but with the usual ADD all day they cut away just as most bands finished the intro. "Here's the University of...." bumpa. bumpa. bumpa. bump bump. blleeeeeet! "Now the Mickey Mouse balloon plugging Disney cruises!"
