When I try to generate a PDF of a NavLog, or even access the Flight Services User Guide (I'm assuming a PDF), I get an error message in the pop-up screen that should show the PDF info.

It says "Blocked plug-in". I've been looking around but haven't found a way to resolve this. I did see on the Apple support forum that someone else has seen this behavior when using another website.

I know this has worked before, but a couple days ago the Mac OS updated and this is the first time I've used the Flight Services website. Something with that update must have changed something.

Any ideas on where to start looking?

@Matthew ... is this what you got? I got it using Big Sur 11.2.1 and Safari 14.0.3 when trying to create the PDF for a NavLog. Also got it when trying to access the User Guide.

However, both documents showed up when using Chrome.

That is it. I think have Chrome installed, will try that next.
There was also an option to email the NavLog. That did open up once the email arrived

Yeah, that does work.

I'm pretty sure I've done this on the Mac prior to the last update, but I also use multiple PCs and browsers so I might not have come up with this particular combination before.

My favorite VFR navlog is still:

If you can print double-sided, it flips front and back pages so when you clip it on your kneeboard you can flip it up to see the back side and it's printed so everything is right side up. All you need to do is fill in the blanks. Edit: Might take a few tries on the printer to get the front and back pages flipped properly - get the arrows lined up and you are good.

Apple has added protections for autoplay videos, intrusive popups, and stealth recording using your microphone and camera. You need to turn some protections off for websites that you trust. Open the preferences in Safari and choose the Websites tab. Then turn off Content Blockers and Allow Popups for 1800WXBriefContentBlockers.pngContentBlockers.png

I'm pretty sure I tried that last night. Anytime wxbrief tries to open a new popup and display a PDF, there is a failure. The popup does open, but the pop-up window displays "blocked plug-in" and doesn't fill in that popup window with the PDF. MIke's post above has a screen snip of what gets displayed. It isn't the popup that's the problem, it's whatever plug-in that's getting used to display the PDF is where the problem is.

I did check that when I try to open the "help" file from the wxbrief menu, it also generates this error. That "help" file is a PDF. So there's something going on between Adobe(?) and Safari. I don't know offhand if I have any other websites I use that generate a PDF the way wxbrief does, so I haven't verified the behavior anywhere else.

I've tried finding where plug-ins are either enabled or installed, but I haven't had any luck. A lot of the Google references are for older versions of Safari where the Preferences were different.

I hadn’t tried the help file, but it is blocked on Catalina and Big Sur. The flight plan displays as a PDF on Big Sur but not on Catalina. So I did some digging. I think that it is a problem on 1800wxbrief’s end. They need to add a line to their html file to allow pdf from their site to display.

The page gives a Javascript error:

Refused to load https://www.1800wxbrief.com/Website/resources/help.pdf because it does not appear in the object-src directive of the Content Security Policy.

Because they want the pdf to display inline, they need to add a line to their HTML <head> section. I think this will do it. Nothing you can do about it.

Content-Security-Policy: default-src 'self'

I’ll see if they have a tech support email and send them a note.

I am using Big Sur, not Catalina.
