Lycoming O-320 overhaul with AM cylinders?

The way I see it, at this point it's a crap shoot on who will deliver you the best cylinder assembly on a batch by batch, component by component, basis. This supplier provided this retailer a bad batch of head castings, another supplier got a bad set of valves through to a different retailer. The real issue I see is everybody is bloody inconsistent in the quality of their supply chain.

Yep, although the Aftermarket could have done a better job as well. The quality control problems that have lead to the plethora of ADs out there isn't a very good showing for the industry.

Quality of contracted parts.

One thing I absolutely agree with is that competition is good for the consumer. Cylinder prices have dropped tremendously on units that have PMA alternatives.

Now you're just making stuff up.

A few years ago ECI changed their cylinder design including the barrel-head interference fit. They built a cylinder test apparatus that ran cylinders at take off pressures and temperatures in order to evaluate cylinder failures. I remember they were very humble about their own failure history. Anyway, their old cylinders were pretty much dead-nuts equal to factory cylinders but their new ones tested far better. Does anyone remember the articles? They're hard to find now. I did find this untechnical advertising flyer but it isn't as detailed as the articles I remember.
