The pollsters definitely have egg on their faces.

I think what happened was the major media demonized anyone who would even think of supporting/voting for Trump that people didn't want to tell the pollsters that was how they were planning to vote.

Look at the pictures of the rallies. Hundreds showed up for Hillary and thousands showed up for Trump. So many that at many rallies there were thousands outside that couldn't get in due to capacity.

Same happened for Bernie. He had huge crowds. Bernie's crowds were larger than Hillary's. But that wasn't the story the media wanted to sell. Bernie got more money from more people than Hillary during the primary, but the Democratic machine, run by Clinton people, were having none of it.

The story here is to be careful believing what you hear from the media. Any of them.

And now the idiots are protesting the results. I wish Trump would put law and order up there as one of his priorities. Read that Sheriff 'Joe' didn't get reelected in Arizona. Trump ought to make him the "law and order czar".

The first few posts were humor, so we allowed it, but if it's going to spin into partisan politics it needs to go elsewhere.

I am slightly amazed that we did not see a surge in a 'third party' presidential votes; as people either grasped for a palatable alternative, or decided to show the Big Two we are going to do something else because they couldn't get their act together.

You want him to take free speech away? I agree that they are idiots - mostly because they are being complete hypocrites... they criticized Trump when he said he wouldn't accept defeat gracefully, but are now doing the same thing themselves. However, people have a right to protest and have their voices heard. Even if you disagree with what their voices are saying, our 1st amendment rights are just as important as our 2nd amendment rights. Let's not turn our country into a "czar" land, please.

Trump meeting with Pres Obama today, wonder what's for lunch? Crow?

Protesting peacefully is fine, but when they start destroying private property, throwing things at police, and looting businesses that's not free speech.

Have they started doing that?

I knew you'd ask! lol

I don't know as I haven't turned the TV on since yesterday morning, but I would not be surprised if that starts, if it hasn't already.

Then, I agree, that they should be arrested.

28 were here in LA. Don't know about Santa Ana.

Idiots.

The peaceful transition of power is a hallmark of our democracy. I don't like the result either. But you know what? That's democracy. And every two/four years we have the opportunity to address the things we don't like by voting. Throwing a hissy fit, inconveniencing other people, and damaging property is not acceptable behavior.

Remember these protesters, for the most part, all got participation trophies for playing sports. They think their way of thinking is the only way to think. I voted for Trump, I am not wild about him, but in my eyes he was the less evil of the two. In my local election every republican lost, I didn't think to protest or loot yesterday, I had to work to pay for my flying habit! :D

I'll drink to that.

Dad a WW2 and Korean War vet who retired after 23 yrs service, Unc flew C46s over the Hump in WW2 retired as a Col, other relatives served in WW2. I spent 20 in the Air Force and do not have a problem with people voicing their displeasures and/or protesting peacefully. I even supported the Dixie Chicks after their remark about Pres Bush. Love when I'd do that and someone would say, "what kind of patriot are you", and I'd say, did you serve in the military". they'd say no, and then I'd hit with "well I did and served 20 years so GFY".

But destroying property and attacking police, no.

When you don't let the 3rd party candidates into the debates, it's hard for a lot of people to consider them on equal ground.

So...first amendment bad, second amendment good, right? The protests I saw (as in personally witnessed, not watched on TV or online) were large and peaceful.

Nauga,
whose angels want to wear his red shoes

Blows my effing mind. People weren't marching the streets when Obama got elected (twice). Now they run around yelling, "**** Donald Trump" and college professors are giving their students the day off to grieve. I don't care if your on the blue side or the red side...this crap is NUTS. I don't even know what to say.

We aren't going to get anywhere with dishonest statements. Yes, people protested when Obama was elected and again when he was re-elected. Here's one example someone just posted on Facebook in response to a claim similar to yours -
http://mobile.nytimes.com/2012/11/0...t-university-of-mississippi-turns-unruly.html

People have a right to be upset, scared and angry now just as people had a right to be upset, scared and angry when Obama took office. Let them process their emotions. At least the ones who are doing it peacefully, not the ones who are burning stuff or whatever.

I thought we lived in a democracy, but according to the press, Hilary Clinton received more votes than Donald Trump, yet he becomes president. Time to scrap the 18th Century procedure which was fine back then, but outdated now. Why on earth is a simple majority vote not used? Perhaps Trump was right and the election was rigged!!

Peaceful protest - sure do whatever the hell you want

But this crap? How could you possibly condone that type of behavior? Burning American Flags, yelling explitives, attacking (literally punching) Trump supporters, etc. What? I'm not saying Trump is the best candidate by any means...

And this crap of professors who are excusing their students from exams and class because they are grieving over the results. WOW!

Honestly I hope those people leave the US and don't come back.

I don't think it was rigged. I think people underestimated how many angry, frustrated Americans out there were willing to vote in a man like Trump. I agree that the electoral college needs to go, though. Unless you live in a swing state, your vote doesn't count.

From the Wall Street Journal today.

"But at Harvard, the Crimson reports, “students, realizing that Clinton may not win, began to do homework.” Desperate times call for desperate measures."

Cheers

It's a republic.

It's been reported that the electoral vote has gone opposite to the popular vote five times in the country's history.

I think the original conception was that the members of the Electoral College would be free to decide on their own how to vote, instead of being pledged in advance to one candidate or another.

Why on earth is a simple majority vote not used?
uh...because the representative electoral process is in the Constitution?
As in 2000, time to complain about the process is before, not immediately after, your candidate loses.

Nauga,
and the tyranny of the majority

Do you also think the US Constitution is an outdated 18th Century document?

BTW, this is NOT a democracy, it's a representative republic.
