LSA doing cross country trip

Here's proof-positive that LSA aren't just for breakfast hops. This CTsw is heading back home to Buffalo NY for the Summer, after spending time in Southern AZ this Winter. Bisbee to St. Louis today. Piloted by husband/wife team from CopperCity Aviation.

I have flown 2800 miles round trip in my Gobosh S-LSA from Colorado Springs to Sebring and around Florida. I have also flown it from here to OSH twice and another of the same model to OSH once. We regularly do other longer cross countries in the LSA.

It is clearly a misconception that you can't go long distances in LSA's. With XM radio and weather it is even more enjoyable.

I've flown to Florida twice, California, OSH several times, Minnesota, Texas, Colorado, and all points in between. :dunno:
 
Even a Cub can get from Florida to Texas in about 14 hours...
Several books from noted authors about that. Frank Kingston Smith comes to mind.
Unfortunately, too many people have getthereitis even before they leave the ground.

This is what I don't get. I fly for fun and to look at stuff. Low & slow is the way to go!

It's relative. I usually go 155ish TAS at 7500-9500. That's 1/4 the height and 1/3 the speed of a 777. I'm low and slow. :lol:

Light sports are just as capable as most single GA piston airplanes.just takes a little longer. I fly a liberty which is in the same class as a light sport,only certified with a higher gross weight. Have put 700 hrs on in the last 4 years. Too many places to list. Have flown several light sports and love them.
 
Didn't two ct's do a trip around the world?
 
Gentlemen......this is nothing new! In the late 40s and thru the 50's, t crafts, cubs, etc. were flown all over the place, not to mention rinker buck and his brother in their cub!. My cessna140 was flown every winter from buffalo to Miami for the winter sans gps , etc. simply a few charts. This was from 46 till 53. My Stearman flew from Canada, ( ex canadian trainer) to 29 palms California where it towed banners, then went to maize, Kansas where it became a sprayer. This was years before an airline captain restored it and later, sold it to me.
 
OP was just trying to dispel perception that *some* have about LSA being fragile little "puddle jumpers". They just finished... almost 1900 miles, in two days. 'looks like 3 stops.

Wolfgang Langewiesche, author of "Stick and Rudder", flew all around Africa in a Cessna 120. Many LSA have similar or better performance and carrying capacity.
 
What is the point of this exercise? I flew my pawnee home from ontario to kansas after we bought it. And i've ferried a pa32 from miami to johannesburg. The fact that a trip was made doesnt make either of them the right tool for travelling those routes.
 
I've often thought about flying coast-to-coast in an ultralight, preferably a trike. Those who have done it say it's almost a spiritual experience.

The airspace restrictions can be navigated around, making the five-gallon fuel tank limit the limiting factor. But if I lost enough weight (from my body, that is), I could strap on another five gallons of fuel as cargo. That's one of the more common creative interpretations of Part 103.

If I was riding in most of the 103-rigs I've seen in the scenario you describe, I would be praying as well.

It has its moments. You learn a lot about the territoriality of raptors during mating season, for example. :hairraise:
