Hello Aviators,

My wife and I will be moving from Pensacola, FL to the Fort Worth, TX area in 2-3 months and we are looking for a flight club. Ideally, the club would have the following characteristics:
- Active flying club with good social activities (joint x-country flights, etc.)
- In need of part time instructors (I hold CFI / CFII)
- Let us join under one / a family application (My wife would join as a student)

Regarding housing, we have been told by other military folks (my wife is a flight surgeon in the USN) that the areas around Aledo, Benbrook and Keller are worth looking into. If someone has some further advice, please let me know.

Look forward to hearing back,
Markus Weckbach

My sister has lived in Keller for 20+ years and loves it.

I would seriously look at renting until you get a feel for the area. Traffic is so unpredictable there. If she will be at JRB Carswell, that opens up the NW quadrant, and some places around White Settlement and out towards Weatherford could be a better choice. There are more direct and not as crowded routes from that side.

There are several flight schools in the area, I'm sure they're recruiting CFI's to replace those off to airlines. Very busy Class B airspace there, but well managed.

Once you arrive in the area, make contact. I am up in Denton and can provide you some "boots on the ground" info

Renting for a while is going to best the best, unless your circumstances require owning a home. Keller is going to be a pain for commuting until late 2023 due to I-35W construction between Highway 114 and US 287. I run thru that area daily. Southbound at 22:00, and it’s between 20 mintues and an hour from Alliance Airport to Meacham Field. At 07:00, going north, average 30-40 minutes. Meacham to the JRB gate is probably 30-40 minutes, depending on which route you take, and can run 10-15 minutes to get thru the gate. Afternoons, the gate to Meachum is still going to be 30 minutes or more, depending on time.

I do the run from Justin to the west side of JRB, and have friends that do Azle to JRB. Only when kids are out of school, or it’s a weekend, do the travel times change much.
