Looking for CFI w/ Commander time

The wx has forced me to cancel my transition training scheduled for Sunday-Tuesday. Unfortunately, the CFI that meets insurance requirements is no longer available until July 4th. CRAP! :mad2:

My insurance requires a CFI with 1000TT, 250 Retract, and 25 in Type (Commander 112A). Email, PM, or comment if you, or a CFI you know, can help me out.

Getting tired of making airplane noises in the hangar,:crazy: getting desperate to fly here in Ocean City, MD.

Someone else on here only had 10 hours of commander time required for the CFI

Yep, insurance has tightened up.

I’ll need 10 dual and 5 solo with 25 full stop landings. I’m sure my accident didn’t help the requirements.
 
I don't meet the Commander time requirement, but easily surpass that other two. I do have 112 time but not 25 hours.

Well, if you’re available I can talk to the insurance company. I don’t think they will budge but I would try.

Gary, does your insurance company possibly have a list of approved CFI's that you might try?

Option 1: If there is a club for Commanders like your old Beech club, maybe they could get you someone.

Option 2: Put in ad on barnstormers as there are a TON of ferry pilots with a kazillion hours and there are probably a few CFI's in there.
 
what a crazy market, these insurance companies. Captive audiences abound.

Held off calling the insurance company. I did get a return call from a CFI that exceeds the open pilot/insurance requirements. We hope to get scheduled in the next few weeks.

I joined the commanders owner group (COG) when I was searching for a plane. They have been a great help, and friendly group.
 
Gary where are you located? I know two local that I used. They acquired their time by me paying them to fly around in my plane to rack up hours.
 
Funny, I was just thinking, I could head downee shore and fly it at max endurance for 25 hours, then we could go out and learn how to fly the thing proper, together. Probably some sort of risk associated with that plan.

Glad you found someone. My insurance check out requirements have always been easy (being the gear doesn't swing:confused:).

Personally, your recent history causing an effect on your insurance is BS. Training should be a 5 second verbal:

CFI: Here's the transition info, can you handle it?
Gary: Sure, as long as a cylinder doesn't develop a 5 inch effing hole just after takeoff, no sweat!;):p

I read this at 2:39 am, literally laughed out loud and woke Mary up. She’s not happy....Im still laughing.
 
Just don’t forget to put the gear down & all is fine. I realize you know that, about the gist of it as far as insurance goes.

You're a great pilot Gary, and insurance guys should be able to see that it took a massive failure to bring down this 1000 hour pilot ... not pilot error, not stupid pilot tricks, not fuel exhaustion, not poor flight planning or get-there-itis.

If it doesn't work out. I have the time in a 112a and live in Raleigh.

Thanks to everyone that responded.

I finished up my transition training with a somewhat local CFII. I knocked out the transition, BFR and IPC. I was one tired puppy. I have five hours of solo to do before I can take Mary along with me. I think I'll do extra until I know the new to me avionics without any issue.

Transition time 11.3 hours
Ground Instruction 4.2 hours
28 full stop landings
BFR
IPC
