Ok so there was a logging truck accident today on my route home from work. Driver died. Kent...I don't know what caused it, but please be careful out there.

http://www.wral.com/traffic/story/3183154/

At 5:15 this stretch of road was still not cleared and 2 lanes of I 40 were still blocked.

Since I didn't get too many great pictures I went back and was going to drive through the area again. Then I see they had freed the truck and was parked in the lane to exit the interstate.

Well the exit to the interstate was blocked. Ok...so I will go to another road and start from where I had decided to turn around. Well traffic is backed up in every direction at this point so I opted to take a detour completely and get some dinner.

After buying dinner I decide to head home. When I stopped at the stop light on Lake Wheeler and I 40 the truck is coming up the exit ramp.

Since I had a yellow light I opted to stop and snap a few photos.

There are a few more on there that you guys can look at.

THEN...I was headed home (FOR REAL this time...RIGHT!!!!) and then I see another accident happen.

Since there were people already there to stop and help I just opted to stay on the other side of the road and snap a few pictures.

The last accident happened on the road where I saved that guys life two weeks ago. Hmmmm....maybe I should find a new way to work & home eh? ;)

Gosh, that truck was tore up bad. I can't imagine anyone surviving that.

Why exactly would you want to take and post publicly pictures of a vehicle in which someone just died?

News people do it all the time. It's called news. People pay lots of money for it. If her pictures were carried by CNN, what would you be saying then?

Understood, just my view of the deal. I personally wouldn't attempt to sink to the media's level of insensitivity. But if one feels that is right, the Bill of Rights says go right ahead.

Maybe if more people would do that, drivers would be a bit safer. Life isn't all sunshine and roses. Ignoring the harsh realities of this sort of thing doesn't do anybody any good.

As for the truck, sounds like it blew a steer tire. That's BAD. Right around the time I started working at my current company, we had someone blow a steer tire. It ripped the entire axle off the truck, and then rolled along underneath the truck, ripping off the fuel tanks and side boxes in the process. When the axle's gone, you're just along for the ride. That driver was lucky, he ended up in the median with a broken nose.

Brook - I have two weeks left! :fcross:

Yeah Kent when I saw this accident I though of you and your accident a while back.

Sorry to hear you only have 2 weeks left. Do you have anything lined up yet? Is it going to be another trucking gig?

I saw the title of this thread and was trying to figure out why you wanted to put a truck accident in your logbook...

Don't be... I'm not! :)

Actually, the sad thing is that there are an awful lot of guys here who have to keep driving for a living, and they're going to have to work for a worse company - I don't think there's a better trucking company to work for.

Do you have anything lined up yet?

I'm working on several things, but nothing solid yet.

Is it going to be another trucking gig?

Heck no! :D

Actually, if I don't have another job by the end of September, I'll probably go to work for a company that has a 7 on/7 off schedule available (it'll be like flying helicopters in the Gulf! LOL) and I can use the 7 off to keep looking, while making money from the 7 on.

I am one of those media people. I take pictures for the paper. Someone has to do it. If you look at it "I'm taking pictures of a guy that just died" it does not look so good. If you look at it like "I'm taking pictures of an accident" it does not seem so bad. It's news and it's a job. If you look at things like people shouldn't do that 1/2 the nation would not have a job. I mean why do people still work in cigarette factories, they are just killing people.

Dan

Cool Kent. I hope you find something you like.

I like that...a week on and a week off. I bet it beats 8-5 anyday. :)

Good point Dan. The other thing I was going to mention - It's a picture of a busted-up truck. It's not like they're showing blood and guts.

If it was a picture of the truck with a big blood spatter on the windshield, that's different. I saw some pics of a Cherokee that crashed in a golf course once that had a big blood spatter on the door. The two occupants did at least survive the initial crash, don't know what became of them afterward, but it sure hit home for me.

One friend from work did get killed in an accident. I saw what was left of his truck with a tarp over it. I did not go digging under the tarp.

Well Brook, i cant say that it's the worst accident i've seen but it is close, as you know i drive a Wrecker and i've been out on to many of these to mention. But i do agree it is news and if posting it helps save one life it's worth it. For anyone on the road " BE SAFE " i dont want to have to pick any of you up.

Oh thats right Dave. You tow away tractor trailers. You be safe out there as well.

Anyother tractor trailer drivers Im missing out there?

Welp, guess i'm outnumbered in my opinion here. I was not meaning to offend anyone , just I have trouble understanding why anyone wants to think about stuff like that. I understand the safety aspect. I drove dumptrucks before I drove airplanes and I know how "carefull" drivers are when they are convinced they are the only vehicle on the road. As for the media comment, that was completely out of line and I appologize. Mods, not telling you your jobs, but please feel free to delete my posts in this thread. They are pretty much pointless. Thanks.

I don't think any more offense was taken by that than you being in the Air Force. :)

I wondered about it a bit but with the pictures being not quite so graphic as they could have been, they do nail home the importance of safety. We never fail to look at accident pictures of aircraft. It shouldn't be any different with autos. For me, the former hits home a lot harder.

I witnessed one of our riders go down hard a week ago when a group of cycles got too slow in a climbing hairpin switchback.. saw him roll down the embankment, land on rocks, and his goldwing came tumbling after him.. Thankfully he dodged a tree on the way down, while thankfully his bike didnt, probably saving his life.

Sorry I didn't snap any pictures. But once we got him packaged up and EMS transported him, we got his bike out of the tree and then I rode it out of the woods....

Lucky for him his riding buddies included two paramedics...

I thought the same thing Ron did - another "logging" question :D Sad to hear the driver died. :(

On a similar note, there was a nasty accident on I-25 here yesterday - apparently a car-hauler with a load of pickup trucks collided with a pickup truck and closed down I-25 for quite some time while they attempted to pick up all the pickup trucks.

Another example of why I think that there should be some sort of highly recognizable indication of a necropost, especially when said post is one's first.

LOL!
"If a pilot with a lapsed medical is in the right seat when an aircraft strikes a truck, can he/she log it as PIC?"

I guess kudos on the poster for actually doing a LOT of reading before posting! Unless they were reading in Date Ascending order?
