A flight of 7 flew a commemorative flight for Lucky Lindy along the route known to have been the last US land prior to his flight across the Atlantic. The group included a Stinson, WACO, and a Stearman. The group departed out of Mansfield, MA (1B9) SE to Taunton (TAN), crossing Bridgewater, Hanson (CRANLAND -28M), then flying over Marshfield (GHG). Along with Lindy, this flight also celebrated the life of George Harlow for whom Marshfield was named. George passed away this week. He spent over 47 years on the Marshfield Airport Commission.

The weather didn't exactly help our plans. Most of the planes that promised to show were grounded by a Low that took up position off the Ma coast and kept the area covered in clouds until about 9AM.
There was a camera crew from FOX there to cover some of the event but I've yet to find anything else on it.

Kewl.

Lindberg learned to fly in Lincoln, NE. There are buildings here where he attended ground school and the chalk boards and stuff are still there (in the attic).

There are homes around here where he stayed as a border and helped other guys built planes. One is right up the street from me. Rumor has it they built wings in the attic and there is writing on the walls (calculations) about the wings. Maybe it was his hand writing?

The City of Lincoln turn the airport he flew off of into a garbage dump in the 70's that is now full. I have tried to talk to people in the City about getting the rights to open a grass strip and a museum about Lindberg, but no one was interested. They would rather spend their share of the stimulus money on shrubs & lamp posts.
