Hello all, I just started a thread on the Redboard about possibly having a fly-in to Havasu and having lunch. Possibly this Sunday or the next?

So far AZChandler and RadioKaos have said they would attend. RadioKaos and I are both Student Pilots, and would use this as an opportunity to fly a Solo Cross-Country.

Maybe someone with Havasu experience could chime in on recomending the best rentals and where to go to lunch? I for one would like to see the London Bridge while I was there.

So lets put some names to faces Southwest Pilots!

Rentals? We don't need no stinking rentals ...............we can all get in the back of Nicks truck.......... we're in AZ.......... it's legal. I'm sure if he's not busy he would pick us up and join us. Anyway, rental, or not, count me in. Uh......... this weekend anyway....... can't do next weekend. :)

That's cool!

We'll give this Sunday a shot? I'm finishing my night X/C with my CFI on Friday night, so I will be too tired to fly on Saturday. Sunday sounds perfect.

I was planning on meeting AZChandler(C-150)and RadioKaos(DA-20) in Gila Bend then fly "Loose" formation (1/4 mile wingtip to wingtip!) to Havasu.

After briefly looking at the chart, it looks pretty straightforward. :goofy:

I guess we can't get a reliable weather forecast for a few days huh?

Sounds like a plan, Andy. Consider me a tentative - I have a commercial flight out of Vegas late Sunday afternoon of both weeks - so it will depend on the time and the weather.

Count me in....Um sheri has a nice plane, maybe she will offer it free of charge :) There is a resturant or two overlooking the bridge, Im sure we can offer up rides into town.

Well, since Sherri volunteered me, I guess I kind of have to now, don't I? :D

I'll take anyone anywhere, and there is a few places that are pretty good right near the bridge (as Michael said). Name the time, I'll meet y'all there.

Well you could decline and make me look really foolish, but I generally don't need much help in that department. ;)

That's great SkyHog! I sent you a PM thanking you but your box is full.

Do you also have a Cherokee 140? (I know you're also building a plane)

I've heard she does have a nice bird, but I guess I assumed she would also do a solo X/C ?

So far we have three Student Pilots converging on your homefield. Clear the pattern cuz' here we come! :hairraise: :goofy: :D

I look forward to meeting you. Thanks to both of you for offering to pick us up! I appreciate it.

Well hold onto your yokes when Sherri comes charging through that formation in that 182. She'll be doing turns around a 140, 150 and DA-20.:D

I just gotta worry about Frank doing turns around a Cherokee. :p

As for places to eat lunch, I vote for Barley Bros. Brewery and grill. Good food and a little pricey, but I'm not flyin' 150 miles to eat at In-N-Out. Just can't sample the microbrews.

Oops - thanks for the heads up Andy. Problem solved.

I used to have a Cherokee 180, but it has been sold to the next lucky person who gets to fly 'er. He's a PoAers also, but I'll keep his identity a secret unless he chooses to post about her.

I thought I'd do the same thing before I build a Kitplane. I should have a hangar at KDVT within the next two years. In the meantime I'll cut my teeth in the Cherokee!

What do you think, an RV-7A or a clipped wing 180hp SuperCub? :D

Its the non students that worry me here :)
Look forward to meeting you too, and everyone else.
Ill be out at the airport anyways, so goto D2Aero FBO and either look for me or a silver jeep wrangler. Ill be around somewhere.

Yeah............ cause what the world needs is 3 or 4 students in formation flight. LOL............ think I'll just meet you guys there. ;)

This should be fun!

I know...........just some teasing.......with a hint of sarcasm. And yes, I think it'll be a great time.

What time is everyone planning on arriving?
I have my IR XC Sunday am. Hope to be back by 10:30ish.

I'm concerned that it will be too windy on Sunday for Student Pilots?

But weather permitting 11:00ish is fine by me!

Could be .. we can touch base again late Sat or early Sun to confirm. BTW .. Vegas is supposed to be unusually calm Sun .. 2-3 mph

I dont think it will be windy on Sunday. 11 sounds perfect for me.

Well, I hate to sound like a wimp  , but I have scrubbed my solo flight to Havasu for today.I'm not sure about Havasu, but yesterday at DVT we had winds 18kt G 25+kt, more of the same today.

I still went over the flightplan with my instructor, but probably won't make the trip until next week.

I apoligize for starting a lunch fly-in and then not making it. I definately need more crosswind training. Maybe I can get PHXavi8tor to help!?!

I'll stay in touch and keep everyone posted, maybe next week I can still meet Skyhog and Michael?

Sorry again,

Sincerely, your wimpy Student Pilot, Woody.

Understandable. We would rather you be safe. Keep us informed :)

Thanks Michael! I will contact your FBO to try and rent a van for next weekend. There are 11 people from the red board that plan to attend next Sunday the 11th at 10:45 AM. All good folks, in fact my CFI is flying in with another Student on a Dual X/C.

Now, whats frustrating is it appears calm at DVT at the moment! :dunno: (I live 8 miles southeast of DVT)

Thanks again for your understanding.

Sounds good. I have a motor home i can bring to shuttle people also. Is anyone still planning on arriving today? or has everyone rescheduled for next weekend?

I was still planning to come out there today (probably 10:30 - 11), but I can try and come out next weekend too. So if you happen to be at the airport today, I'll stop in and say hello. Otherwise, I'll see you next week.

Yea, Ill be out there washing my plane. hopefully Nick will join me :)

Well..........you didn't tell us that before....... If YOU'RE washing airplanes, maybe we should all brave the wind........LOL :D I'll have the VIP with the baby powder air freshener, please. ;)

Never, ever feel like a sissy for not doing something you're not comfortable with, Andy. Even if the day turned out perfect and you decided not to go, you still made the right decision.

So we still have some people coming. I won't be here next Sunday, unless y'all come really late.

Thanks, Michael. It was nice meeting you, April and Nick. The flight home was beautiful. Hopefully, we can do it again sometime. Now I'm off to Minneapolis for the week ...

Thanks again,
Dan

Well I appreciate you saying that, cuz' I did feel like a sissy!

But I guess It's better to be on the safe side! I just need more X-Wind training. I did study for my written all morning, so all was not lost. I watched the entire Jeppeson ground school DVD's. (but I doubt I'll do as well as Sheri, she's a tough act to follow!)

We'll meet you eventually! I want to check out your Kitplane Plans and shop.
