Got some bidniz in NY coming up. What better way to spend 2 days than loading wifey up, some hot chocolate in a thermos, packed sammys and going the distance? The Aerostar is perfect for these trips.

Planning on 2 stops. Looks like WX should be OK. Some CAT and general nastiness over the midwest, but then it looks like the blizzard will miss NY and move up north. First stop will be Pueblo in Colorado for some fuel, then I'm aiming for either St Louis or the Chicago area to stay the night and refuel. Tue we'll do the last hop to CDW or TEB. TEB only if WX deteriorates beyond the RNAV into CDW - I'd like to avoid their exorbitant handling fees if I can. Planning on FL210 for now, so as not to deep freeze my dear wife too much. She's a SoCal wimp and doesn't like the cold (which beg's the question - why bring her to NY in Feb?). Me, I'm paranoid about running the Janitrol as always. A stovepipe burning fuel with an open flame in your tail? I'd rather not, but at FL210 I have no choice unless I want to turn into a popsicle. Hoping I can stay above most of the midwest bad stuff (and it's looking less bad by the minute as well, which is good)…

If you have any Iowa, Illinois, Indiana tips for airports with good fuel prices and a nice place to stay the night, I'd love to hear them. All I need is 3500ft, an approach, decent fuel price, an FBO and a hotel with a restaurant nearby.

Do you have any other heat other than the Janitrol? If not, you'd be running that thing at 0' AGL or FL210, this time of year, no?

Only have the Janitrol. No other heat source unfortunately. Scares the **** out of me that thing.

That's pretty much _any_ twin though.

HPN can work too - much better access to transit than either CDW or TEB. Are you a kerosene burning Aerostar? Cause don't go to TEB with its [still] $8 100LL prices . . . buy enough to go someplace else to buy more - like SRQ or MIV. -

Could somebody elaborate on the Janitrol / heat source?

Do some airplanes, like the Aerostar, not have a good source for heating the cabin?

This is first I've read of having to burn something inside the cabin to generate heat.

Unlike singles (which rely on exhaust generated heat), twins typically have a heater in the nose that burns avgas to provide cabin heat). I've never had an issue with one that was properly maintained.

Did you just get married? 4 weeks ago, you said you flew your girlfriend to San Francisco.

Two TACAN rule does not apply if you bring the chick with you, BTW. :D

That is a long, long way from NYC.

For fuel on the way home in an Aerostar? Its less than 90 minutes -

SRQ is Sarasota Florida. At 230kts I show a 2:45 minute detour. (I don't know what an Aerostar does speedwise, but it is a 670nm detour.)

I think he may be referring to SMQ; Somerset Airport.

I was looking at building a hot water heat system.
