KXNA (Fayetteville, AR) Airport Diagram

Actually now 35 (the furthest west piece of pavement) is open and 34 is closed. I landed there last week. I asked the woman at the FBO what was going on. She said that the old runway had deteriorated because of the deice liquid they had been using.

There was a chemical reaction in the concrete of the initial runway that caused it to fail but it wasn't from de-ice fluid.

I don't remember the name of the reaction and I'm not sure that they were ever able to determine the root cause

You know this for a fact? Specifically that this this is the issue at XNA?

Yes, Tim, I know if for a fact. And thank you Laura for going to the trouble to find and post the link to the article. For our last project, I was very careful to be sure we had no ASR issues with the concrete. Nasty stuff!

*Scratching head* I think you're talking about me. When I was a kid I wished for the name Laura, but perhaps I had been reading too many Little House books. This was way before the TV series...

Too much (or the wrong) fly-ash mixed into the concrete. Bbut it was cheap :) .

I was talking to you, Indigo. I guess I got you mixed up with someone else. Sorry about that :(.

Thank you again anyway!

There is a huge uproar right now because of a chicken farm being built in the Buffalo River watershed. The local EPA/ADEQ approved the permit. :mad2:

The hot issue that I've been hearing about regarding the Buffalp watershed is a large scale hog farm. I don't know if this is in addition to the chicken farm you mentioned or instead of a chicken farm. Krap is Krap (not to be confused with KRAP)

btw, Clarksville (H35) has a farmer that mows the airport for the hay. After he mows, he fertilizes with chicken krap. You definitely know it if you land there shortly afterwards.

I think your right. I knew it was some type of animal farm. Like you said it's still pollution going into the Buffalo. That much Nitrate going to the watershed isn't natural.
