Klapmeier / Kestrel in Maine

I think it's forward thinking of Maine state to do something with Brunswick. Like Pease in NH, a nice airport with a lot of good possibilities. Here in Ma, when the Navy left So. Weymouth, the hue and cry to close the airport was loud and immediate. 10 years later, it's still next to nothing.
Pitiful.

That Kestrel looks like one sweet rig. Love to know the pricing - it could really ding TBM850 sales.

I watched some video of one of the principles at Sun N Fun. Methinks he dost protest too much about its similarity to the Epic LT. It's like the EXACT same plane, at least on the outside. And the powerplant.

Regardless, having Klapmeier involved does lend some credibility.

Single engine turboprop market is starting to heat up. Beech has a much-whispered project on tap. Kestrel. Too bad Walther Extra isn't pushing his little turboprop (looks like a little MU2).

Your statement about NAS S. Weymouth is no longer true John! 15 years after closing down the NAS, they broke ground yesterday on a road that is "expected to spur construction"... I guess the miles of existing road through the base just weren't enough. The project is expected to take 12 years to complete and cost $1.4 billion! So, in government terms, that means we can expect something to be built there in 20 years at a cost of about $3.2 billion...

I don't understand how you get from $1.4 billion to $3.2 billion. Historically, it doesn't make sense. The gubmint never deals in cost overruns of only 100%.

Either move the decimal point, or change units from billion to trillion.

From Farnborough Aircraft:

"Farnborough Aircraft had a brief joint venture with Epic which ended in 2005, a year before the Kestrel first flew. We did the majority of the aerodynamic design work for the Epic LT and the Kestrel, and the 2 aircraft use the same wing. The Kestrel's fuselage is significantly larger than the LT's, and it is designed to be a certified aircraft not a kit plane."

Explains the two aircrafts similar looks. I like them. Note in the video the left main gear gets jammed on retraction.

Like I said, methinks he protestest too much. Reminds me of Vanilla Ice claiming he didn't rip Queen/Bowie.

I saw that little hang of the gear too. I kept waiting for them to drop and retract again, but it seemed to resolve itself.

So you'll be replacing the Matrix? :wink2:

I've been workin' over the missus, trying to soften her up for a turbine purchase.

A few more bumpy days down low with cum buildups into the teens and I'll be able to seal the deal. :ihih:
