I have a KI214 indicator and was trying to find out if I install a GNS430W in the aircraft will it play nice with the indicator?
All the research I have done did not answer my question.
 
Nope. You will need a different indicator like a Garmin 106B that has an annunciation for gps/vloc.

How does that work properly? The signal from the 430 is digital going to an analogue indicator. OBS from the 430? Seems like lipstick on a pig setup.

May not be as nice as an integral light on a CDI, but is an option in the 400W series install manual. GPS and VLOC source output wires are separate outputs from P4001. To keep a functioning unit, adding an external indicator works. Some install options can also be used to ID autopilot source.
