Anyone know of any flying clubs or partnerships based out of KFLY?

Sorry I don't know of any :dunno: I'm only here to comment on what a cool airport code the Meadow Lake Airport has.:yesnod:

KFLY
I think that's a fairly new identifier for Meadow Lake. I'm surprised it hadn't been snapped up by some other airport first.

Nick, are you moving to COS?

I also don't know of any there but the gliders were very busy last summer.

The Airport ID is years old. But lots of websites and places still have the old one.

I will be able to say on Monday. But probably.

Welcome to FLY if you end up coming this way. I have had my plane there for a little over a year. It is a fun little airport. There is a lot of home building going on here. I am building a RV-12. As far as clubs and or partnerships. I am not aware of clubs. Springs Aviation runs a flight school and I believe Bobby who runs it rents out as well. Also I saw this partnership listed on the web site that may or may not still be available.

Short answer: I'm moving to Colorado Springs.

Long answer: ...I had something long typed up and then decided it was best to not go into too much detail just yet in public, but if anyone is curious, I can PM details. Its all good news, no bad news, just a whimsical story of dealing with HR in a giant company that moves a bit slower than I am used to :)

So yay! On or around the end of Feb/Beginning of March, I'll be a Coloradan. 6 hours drive (2 hour flight) away from my parents, so Tyler will get to know them better, but 6 hours away so I don't have to deal with the nastiness that I dealt with when I lived in Albuquerque. Plus - Colorado Springs is freaking gorgeous. I was out there a few weeks ago interviewing and fell in love with the place - its like North Carolina, but without the beaches anywhere nearby. Probably less humidity too.

The plan is for this to be our last move for a long time. I'm getting too old to move too many more times before settling, and Tyler needs stability in his life.

So? Who ya gonna be working for?

Mediocrity reigns in big company HR departments. ;)

Now younger to join the never-ending debate... Coloradan or Coloradoan. ;) ;) ;). The lyrics to America The Beautiful were written in Colorado Springs, unsurprisingly to anyone who's been there. Make sure you get to the top of Pikes Peak and look East on a completely clear day. Maybe wait until you've acclimatized to the altitude a bit before that, if you're not into headaches. Hydrate. But you're a pilot, you know altitude effects...

Growing some roots can be good sometimes.

I guess BUMP....still looking for a reasonable partnership/club in the Springs...

If you know someone who works at the Academy, look into the flying club at KAFF. Staff, civilian employees, family and contractors are eligible. Don't know about anyone else but it couldn't hurt to ask.

Nick,

What kind of plane are you looking to fly? I suspect the opportunity is in starting a club and you need to find people with similar interests to begin with. There are more than 400 airplanes based at Meadow Lake, many of which are not flown frequently. As mentioned earlier in this thread, there is a club that has a Comanche and a Cherokee 235, so I assume you are interested in something else.

Nope - actually, that's my primary lead right now. However, I'm interested in what my options are.

FWIW - that ad wasn't posted when I looked back in February.

Nick,

Have you found your club yet? The weather has been so good this last month that I have been flying a couple times a week. I hope you have been able to enjoy it as well.
