In-flight bathroom emergency leads to felony charge

It’s a felony charge brought on by Montezuma’s revenge.

It was 30 minutes after takeoff. Joao Correa had to use the bathroom. Right away.

The last meal the Philips Healthcare marketing manager ate at a restaurant in Honduras wasn’t sitting well. He looked down the single aisle of the Delta 737. A beverage cart blocked his way.

Correa, 43, asked the flight attendant if he could use the lavatory in business class. No, she said.

Correa returned to his seat. He waited for the cart to move. A few minutes passed. Desperation overcame him.

What happened next on the March 28 flight depends on who is talking.

Another case where there for the grace of ... go I. I'd be just as determined. :dunno:

The airline also strictly follows Federal Aviation Administration policy, which calls for passengers on international flights to use the lavatory in their seating class, Elliott said.

Huh? Is that for real?

It is TSA, not FAA, and yes, it is on the books. But more or less just loosely enforced, at least at my place of business.

So yes, there's such a law on the books. But NO, in that it ISN'T the FAA.

He could have taken a dump on the cart. Remember the guy who did that??!!

I'd make an appeal to reason:

"Lady, I understand your position, but you have to understand mine. If I don't get to a bathroom pronto there will be a brown stinky mess flowing rapidly from my anus. It's up to you -- do you want it here in the aisle or in one of the bathrooms. I really don't care."

TSA strikes again.

They have yet to realize that their strict rules cause more harm to Americans than the alternative.

And don't get me started on that particular crew - I've seen plenty from various airlines (and more than one from that airline) that make the TSA enforcers look like little red riding hood. I've seen some that would turn in their own mother. :mad3: (Then again, there are some passengers that travel up front that also think the action is OK because, well, they paid for first class and they don't want the riff-raff coming near them, dammit.)

Does anyone know how I can find this particular rule?

I agree about the crew...

I think that this could be termed an emergency. One time when my wife and I was flying back to IL. we had stopped in Dennison,IW. for breakfast and to fuel the plane. We had just reached our altitude out of Dennison, when my wife said we had to stop again, right away. Something she had eaten for breakfast didn't agree with her. I pushed the go to the nearest button on the GPS and it said Pella, IW 180 and 7 miles. We landed and just in time. So to answer your question, yes I think it is an emergency.

I'd have crapped in the aisle.

You and me both, bro.

The outcome for the passenger wouldn't change but it would be a never forgotten lesson to the crew about how to handle the next incident.
