It's only a safety problem...

And the problem is? Did that several times because of inop doors or evac slides. Check the MEL, block out the seats, drive on. Now the way he worded it, that's funny.

That's the thing. The way it was worded, it sounds funny.
 
The odd thing is they taped off the seats and told the passengers. Wouldn't it be simpler to sell fewer tickets? The door was inop, so it was an exiting capacity thing. Of course they would need to inform them not to try to use that door if exiting was necessary in a real emergency, but that would cause a lot less concern than the way they did it. Probably due to the way the rules read.

Yeah, especially if they board the same way Southwest does with no assigned seating. I don't think they can use the seats associated with that exit.
