Spotted these off to the side of the main ramp in Lakeport, CA - a nice airport in a beautiful area north of California's Wine Country. But this is an airplane forum, so... Are these modified Canberras?

There were two of them, and that's a Mooney tail on the left for size reference. They seem much smaller than I expected. Look like they were doing atmostpheric research or photography.

Yep, as to which model, I'd have to do a little research.

Very cool, thanks! Though it sadly doesn't look like either of these are currently airworthy.

AKA B-57 when built under license by Martin. The RB-47 and WB-57 with TF33 engines flew a lot of high altitude work.

Cheers

The British of that era were famous fo planting the engines in the wing; not above or below.

Not to mention the over/under fuselage arrangement in the English Electric Lightning.

Cheers

The side by side seating arrangement leads me to believe this one was foreign/Canadian, or possibly one of the early evaluation aircraft. Could be wrong, but all the USAF service birds had tandem seats with a fighter style canopy.

It's an A model and they were made for the USAF. The tandem ones you are thinking of are the B-57Bs
