Is there a dimmer setting on a MAC 1700?

I have a Bendix-King MAC1700 and the display seems really dim. I have to shade it with my hand in order to select different stations and see the display. Does anyone know if there is a dimmer adjustment for the display?

I just went through the entire manual and found no mention of such a thing.
