It was mentioned the slow and database error issues here, but it's not just here. A lot more I'm getting dead and stalled direct links to major websites including Dilbert and The Onion. :dunno:

There are some new software products out for businesses that are similar to anti-virus. They allow businesses to block certain dangerous users.

The vast majority of providers are massively oversubscribed in cities, in the mobile data space. You on wired or mobile bandwidth, Henning?

Cranking away at 100Mb/s+ here on the fiber at the office... and no delays going anywhere, really...
 
Important to remember that Al gore never said he invented the Internet. Rush, the hick, Limburger said that. He also made about 250 mill off the sale of his TV station. He's also been proven correct about global warming although the flat earth rubes still don't agree in spite of overwhelming evidence. Reminds one of Galileo and the Catholic Church. It's perfectly possible servers are slowing things down to obtain more money from the gullible subscribers. Greed is big. Just ask trump.

Sometimes I think the internet is slow. But I'm pretty sure that 90% of the time it's my provider. No good options here.

Damn. If I knew I could make more money slowing down the servers I'd have made sure we never through out those Pentium 4 machines. Slower servers would have meant more profit!

Got the database error this morning. Now that it's working again it's slow.

As I stated in the OP, I am noticing similar issues across the Internet, including major media sites.
 
It's not really about the internet getting "slow", it's about us humans becoming more impatient.

Many of us here remember when 14.4kb connections to local BB's were the best thing and we were happy with the processing speeds of the PC-AT, and the Intel 386/486.

But I'm right there with many of the population, finding the near instant access to different bits of info (both important and trivial) somewhat addicting.

Is it really? Do we have a bandwidth shortage from all the streaming services? I could believe it, lot of useless video constantly streaming everywhere. I imagine the slowing is somewhere in the switching though, because I notice identical issues even on FiOS. Lot more streaming now than just Netflix as well. All the cable companies have their own streaming, then there is YouTube. Good God the bandwidth that YouTube must use...:eek:

Netflix accounts for something like 35% of internet traffic. And yes, with shared internet like cable, it can/will hurt your performance. YouTube is probably a blip on the radar compared to NetFlix.

Cite? I'm having a hard time believing that number domestically and definitely not internationally. Reads like the FUD the backbone providers have offered up to force Netflix to pay to not be blocked by them (essentially ransom).

If you are polling, Netflix is my TV. Luckily I am a renter and don't have to deal with Comcast. My mobil data is through T-Mobile, and I can't think of a major company that I have such a positive customer service history with. Also I have 'free' international data roaming and Wifi calling.
 
Not polling. Wondering where Bart got the "35% of Internet traffic" number, considering carriers aren't required to report that, and anything out of a carrier on the topic is likely marketing or fiction designed to sway public opinion on regulations and legislation.
 
I don't know where the number comes from either, but considering how much bandwidth I use watching it and when I don't, and how popular Netfix is, I can't dismiss the number out of hand. 90% of my bandwidth use is Netflix.
