Anyone know what is up with TapaTalk? The last several iOS updates, I’ve been getting a message that the developer needs to update the app or it won’t function with future iOS versions.

Now, after updating to iOS 11.0.3, it’s finally come to a point where it won’t open at all.

Any workarounds?

Works for me on iPhone 7+.

Responding to you from iPhone 8 Tapatalk. Maybe delete off your phone and redownload if you have already updated to latest version.

You probably have the old grandfathered Tapatalk Pro from years ago that they dropped support for and made a new app.

Check on the App Store for a newer/different version. They’ve been plugging away on updates on the new version for years.

Ah. That makes sense and probably explains why I hadn't been getting the same notifications on my phone.

I check the app.

Yeah there was a big flap about them killing the old one a few years back but on iOS you could keep running it if you had a copy. Folks liked the old interface. You get used to the new one though.

The update to iOS 11 kills it, since it’s been unavailable for a long while now.

Under the previous ownership of Tapatalk, several years ago, there were two versions, including a "Pro" version that had no advertisements.

What happened thereafter is that the ownership of Tapatalk changed hands, and the old Pro version was no longer supported by the new developer.

That's what I recall, anyway.

I'll throw out another possible scenario.........

when iOS 11 first came out, tapatalk (and a lot of other apps) sent out notices saying not to upgrade to iOS 11 or it'll break their app....for the time being. after the release of iOS 11, apps got busy updating their code to be compatible with 11. THEN, they release an update for their app so that it will be compatible WHEN you upgrade to 11. HOWEVER, if you didn't update your apps FIRST, then upgraded to 11, you still had the old app version that isn't compatible with 11, which means it won't work. so just an FYI, update your apps first, then iOS second.

It's a damn good thing our ancient airplanes don't need any of this update crap to keep them from falling out of the sky. Even when I forget to update my GNS databases it doesn't seem to impair the ability to generate sufficient lift. :rolleyes2:

Your A&P has been doing them all along. Lol

I never saw any warning from them not to upgrade (I only get those from ForeFlight) and the app has been compatible from day one of iOS 11 as far as I can tell.

Developers had a LONG time to prep for iOS 11.
