I don't think it's rude at all to call up until about 8pm, unless it's friend or family. Beyond that, I'd prefer to be left alone, but I have kids to get bathed, read to, and put to bed. If I didn't, I probably wouldn't care.

I'm amazed at how many people still have land lines. We dumped ours well over ten years ago.

If it's free or nearly so and you're lumping in VOIP into the landline category, why not? Give the cell number to real people and give the landline number to everyone else. Just remember to turn off the ringer on the landline and turn on voice-to-text transcription on the voicemail.

That's what the Google Voice number is for.

I just had someone ring the door bell at 9:45pm! I shouted through the door that I was not going to answer. I then set the house alarm on instant, while I was doing this they knocked on the door. I then shouted that I was not going to answer and that I was armed. No reply!

Probably just a lost kid. No biggie. LOL.

Edit: Looking for help. Haha.

Around Midnight Wednesday I got 3 calls from the gate phone in <10 mins. I wasn't home, but the calls simul ring to my mobile.

While I enjoy living in a gated community, I hate the occasional bother of people who dial everyone in the directory until someone roboticly hits the "open the gate button"

I had the management company check once and sure enough... same car there on the cameras and the gate call log was #001, #002, #003, and so on. I'm #005.

As I'm typing I'm thinking "Can I change to #747"? They'd never get to me!

Ok maybe this is really old fashioned but it was something I was told as a kid and it always kinda stuck with me.

My father didn't like to call people in the evening like around 6-8pm, the idea being they'd be sitting down to dinner. He considered it to be rude. So we'd either make a call earlier like before 6 or wait until after 8.

I still remember this now and it makes me hesitate.... I know I'm annoyed when people call while we're eating dinner. However, in the age of cell phones and people not commonly doing the family dinner thing anymore is it still relevant? Was this just something my dad did and nobody else has heard of? I'm curious.

I always thought calling after 8 was rude because people were trying to get their kids ready for bed.
