Is airtrafic noise really that bad, give me a break

I don't believe crop duster or those spraying chemtrails are the issue. Its the 172 and others who fly over all the time. I know if my airplane had up facing exhaust tips you would hear nothing on the ground from my airplane. It would be whisper in the air. Its not the prop you hear on my airplane. The prop makes music the engine makes noise. IMHO...Unless you have one of those war birds. Those sound awesome. But how often does a war bird fly over Joe Shmoes house. But to hear an engine and say that is music, I say that is noise. Unless you have open headers and heading down the drag strip. But who would want to live next to a drag strip? Maybe one or two bent folks who like loud engines, but not many.

Actually, most of the noise you hear from an airplane is from the propeller cutting through the air. There is some exhaust noise but what people on the ground mostly hear is not that. This is not the case for all planes but there are always exceptions.
Also, up facing exhaust is a safety issue, then it is more likely to enter into the cabin, now we have a serous problem .
However, in some European countries they use mufflers, you can build your own that is very light and effective but it is a weight penalty. A muffler us a much better option if you are worried about engine noise.

Our new house is 150ft from a major freight rail line. We wanted the house, we wanted the location, and the neighborhood was almost built out, so we jumped on it. Two years later, what trains? Don't even notice. From the upstairs front porch I can look one way and see kids and families playing in the city park out house borders, and look the other way and see the trains running, which can actually be soothing. Then I drink some more beer, life is good!

Growing up our house was 2mi from the threshold of 28R at KPIT. My fascination for flying and planes comes from many years of plane watching.

One set of grandfolks lived right near the tracks. Probably helped that grandfather worked for 30 years for Union Pacific that none of us minded trains or train noises, and we were usually excited to see the oddball trains that were not in the usual schedule. They had a whole house full of train memorabilia. I now have his service pins framed, a reminder of a long gone era of companies actually wanting life long employees and running the place well enough to weather bad years.

Aspreys !!! What wonderful helicoaircraft...it dosn't make big noise like jet
 
Kinda crazy but I like the noise a prop makes.

Kinda like the sound of that 1/2 vw. One time after I landed here came a pickup truck. The man gets out and said he was fishing on the lake and heard me fly over. he had to come check out my airplane. He thought it had a small radial on it. When he found it was a 1/2 vw he was amazed and shocked. He walked away shaking his head. Very nice older Gent who loved the radials..

Those are very sweet little engines. You are swinging quite a big piston for such a compact engine. I do like the way they sound, they are very much like an old radial.
 
My present bike is a BMW boxer, I like the sound of the flat 2.

Never got to ride a Beamer. Everybody who owns one won't shut up about how much they like them, how nice they ride etc.(not talking about you but my local fellers) one day I will see what all the hype is about.

I have a newer water cooled R 1200 GS, it's a fabulous all around bike, and the new water cooled engine puts 125hp, so it's peppy. I can do most any kind of riding on this bike and it does very well.
