I have internet here, but it is obscenely slow and frequently craps out for days at a time.

Is there an app that I can use to download (as opposed to stream) ATC radio to my iPhone?

Hmm... I have a police scanner app which also has the frequency for DCA on there; but, the reception is kinda crummy.

Have you searched for an app yet?

The one I use is called LIVE ATC. But it does stream , as most of them will.

you can download MP3's from the LiveATC archive for any of their feeds. Just do it from their website.

Thanks for the suggestions!

My internets are squeezed through an incredibly tiny pipe and are down more than they are up, so for anything more than a medium picture file size I usually use a download manager on the PC. I was hoping to find something that would manage the downloads so I could listen and get acclimated to ATC traffic on the iPhone. I don't use it for cell service over here, but I do have a wireless router connected to a poor excuse for a satellite data service.

I've searched high/low for an app that would do this, but short of jailbreaking the phone I haven't found anything in the app store that would be able to act as a download manager.

For anyone that isn't familiar with them, download managers handle things like random disconnects, pausing/restarting, slowing down and speeding up downloads from the internet. They are a godsend when you're sitting on the back side of nowhere and have a matching internet service provider.

Cant you just buy a cheap scanner from ebay or something and listen that way ?

I use the LiveATC app also. One thing I dislike about it is when it loads and updates the db. It can be slow before you can listen to your favorites. Sometimes it can be faster for me to just go to my bookmarked link on safari to listen to ATC.

Unless you want to mount an antena on your roof, it would only work if you live near a few small uncontrolled airports and at least one towered one. Otherwise you only catch the occasional aircraft enroute.

I completely overlooked your post. This sounds like the best compromise, until I get back home.

Thanks!
