Well... This is all kind of disappointing. I was hoping that they'd have a smaller edge-to-edge iPad, but rather than making the device smaller, they made the screen bigger! However, the 9.7" non-Pro iPad that came out back in March wasn't touched (not unexpected, only 7 months later), so I would expect that there will be an event in March at which that is made edge-to-edge at the very least. If there's no new mini in March, fuhgeddaboutit.
My prediction for March is exactly what I'm looking for: A 9-10" screen in a mini-ish form factor, replacing both the iPad Mini and the "iPad (2018)" (the 9.7" one). Edge to edge on the current Mini would be a 9.5" display, while edge to edge in the current 9.7"-display form factor would be 11.5", and since that screen size is taken by the now-enlarged Pro, I think we're looking at one device to replace both the iPad and iPad Mini.
