These solar lights are a steal at $35.98 at Sam's Club. They're nice and bright. And because they have three heads, with careful placement, you can cut the number of lights you need by a third.

The pictures were taken with no flash and are unedited except for resizing and blurring my license plate number. The lights really are that bright.

I also like the fact that they use rechargeable AA batteries that are easy to replace. The OE batteries in the first light I bought wore out prematurely, which apparently is quite unusual judging by the reviews. Sam's Club would have exchanged it, but it wasn't worth uninstalling it (especially since I ran the wire through the soffit), driving a hundred miles, and reinstalling the replacement. Everything else checked out fine, so I'm sure it was the batteries.

But I wound up having to head out that way anyway, so I bought a second light for the porch. That's the one in the pictures in this post.

These can be ordered online from Sam's Club or purchased in-club. If you're not a member and want to join, then use my referral link! You get a $20.00 gift card, and I get $10.00. After all, we are not communists.

How unsocialistic of you to say that....:lol:

That is a lot brighter than the solar powered lights I bought 5 or 6 years ago. Those were as bright as a flashlight with almost dead batteries....

I do regular security lights powered by solar going through an inverter. Was happy to have them last night during the 8 hour power failure. I just need to get the house lights on solar power now.

and blurring my license plate number

Out of curiosity, why? It's available to the public every time you drive in public, yes?

What info could be gleaned from a tag number and an internet forum moniker?

Truly curious as I've never been worried about it... Maybe I should be.

It's pretty easy to track down a vehicle's owner through the plate number if you are (or know) a cop, insurance agent, private investigator, or anyone else with access to DMV records. Having already been an identity theft victim several times over, I don't like to put any clues out there on the Interwebs. I assume that anything that can be abused, will be abused.

I attended an educational seminar after my most recent (and serious) identity theft incident. They talked about how even the slightest bits of information leaked to those with nefarious motives could be used to put together a picture of someone's identity, and in turn used to get more information. Something seemingly harmless like discarded EAA or AOPA junk mail with your name on it, for example, tells an identity thief that you probably have enough money to be worth a deeper dig.

The basic rule is to put nothing out there. Even the cover pages of sale flyers should be shredded if they have your name on them. Every little piece of a puzzle adds to the big picture of a person's identity.

I don't know how important it is to blur a plate. But I do know that it's easy enough to do, so I do it.

Pretty bright. I like that you’re charging them with themselves. Ha. Perpetual motion machine? :)

$39.99 from third parties at Amazon, looks like.

Most places sell that light for between $40.00 and $50.00. Amazon had it for about $43.00 when I checked. I don't recall whether that was through Amazon or a third party.

I have a used car battery in my basement that still has a little life left in it. The core charge is only $5.00, so I'm thinking about things I can do with a car battery and a 12V solar panel rather than returning it. I'll probably wind up using it to bench test 12V devices.

Yeah I was just curious. You ran Sam’s Club out of stock, if you didn’t notice. :) PoA effect. Hahaha.
