Here in the Midwest this past weekend we had a really nice snow storm. With winds coming in from a passing Low, southside of Chicago and northern Indiana got hammered with lake effect snow. The northly winds also really kicked up Lake Michigan. With temps at about 7-10F point one would think that going into the waters of lake Michigan would be stupid.

I knew a guy who surfed the waters of Alaska. I suppose if your wet suit is warm enough.
 
Might be in a drysuit at those temps.
 
When the waves are hot, who cares what the temp is.

Are they outsourcing caption writers too? "...has his control atop a wave..."??? Honestly, who writes this stuff?

I saw a few guys doing the surfboard/parachute thing (I'm sure it has a name, but I don't know what it is) off a snow-covered Bradford Beach here in Milwaukee a couple weeks ago... :crazy:

It is mixed with a lot of the silt and sand in the shallows off of the beach in that area. The water is pretty clean in lake Michigan. When flying over it you can see a lot. The storm was pretty wicked and it kicked up a lot of crude from the bottom.

Yeah, the Zebra Mussels did a pretty good job on that.
 
Kite surfing/boarding. But we near a real ocean prefer kite surfing.

Some trivia: the kite is actually a parabolic sail with an inflatable leading edge. There are three sets of lines to control the AoA in 3 axis. The sets of lines are in pairs, 1 each port and stbd leading to attachment points on the kite.

I actually saw more kite surfers at a beach on Cape Cod than any beach on the west coast. It was like a zoo, I stopped counting at 50.
 
I saw a photo the other day of some lady who lived in Siberia. She was a member of the winter swimmers club. She DID have on a bathing suit - one piece - and was getting ready to jump in the water. The OAT was negative something F.

Nothing inappropriate except maybe a bunch of people outside in MINUS 70 CENTIGRADE!!!! That river should be frozen solid so the question is.... Is it downstream from a NUKE? Or is that a natural hot spring?

Well, the water is above freezing anyway! I thought it was interesting that there was steam coming off the water. I guess that could happen if the water were say 35 degrees ABOVE F with the air 35 below or whatever....

Maybe the weight of the ice exerts a downward force which causes an increase in pressure which results in an increase in....aw, never mind.
