Final Approach
Thinking about why I started the post, I located my manual for the 1971 Skylane that I got my HP endorsement in. At the time, I'd just recently come from a transition into a DA-40, which was the first CS prop airplane I'd operated.
I discovered that I didn't have a full picture of what was happening and why, but one poster above found something that also in the manual I'm reading. And I think this is the valid reason to reduce MP & RPM. Knowing this, I can have more freedom in the operation of the aircraft during training (going back to a C-182 soon) when most of the pattern work will usually be when the engine is up to full operating temp (after maneuvers practice).
