Last nite I clicked on a friend's emailed googlemaps link and Avast detected a virus which it couldn't clear -- it stalled out so I had to reboot and started up their scan program, 67pct done but now this Q appears on screen:

File c:/windows/miccal.exe is infected with win32:delf-MZG (trj)
File is in windows folder, are you sure? (sure you want to move to chest)
Yes 1. Yes to all 2. No 3. Exit esc.

Which do I want?

Win XP

miccal.exe is part of the Realtek audio driver to calibrate your microphone... quarantining it won't hurt. You may want to reload the driver though if you use a microphone.

What Tim said.

Also - if it was really a google maps link, it wouldn't have infected ya. You might want to let your friend know that he's likely got a virus that is sending itself out as a google maps link to others.

scan complete....seems much happier now.
your input appreciated.
anything I should do now? (deleted 'chested' files?)

The hit on the Realtek driver may have been a false positive. There was a problem with one of Avast's updates overnight. It was finding infections everywhere. Heuristics on steroids.

If you already deleted it, I wouldn't worry. If you ever need that functionality just reinstall the driver. (There may also be a copy in the dllcache.)
