I just installed inertia reel seat belts from Alpha Aviation in the 172N. Installation was a little tedious but pretty straightforward. Much more comfortable than the old fixed belts. Leaning forward in flight will be a new concept!

Installed the fixed shoulder harness from BAS ,should have gone the inertia reel belts .for comfort .

Not sure if those or my Roesn visors were the best thing I installed in my 182. Worth every penny!

Put both in mine too and love 'em both. Door Stewards still gets my vote for best thought out and practical upgrade though.

I got inertia reels in my 172 when I installed the Amsafe airbag belts. I think that the recoil tension is a little tight but have gotten use to it.

I put inertia reels in my Beech Sport many years ago and like them.

Counterpoint. I used Hooker manual Y harnesses in my 180. I prefer manual restraints and I have no issue operating my flap handle.

I installed hookers in my 172 without thinking and had to leave them loose to reach the Johnson Bar. Yeah, I always said the first thing I'd do in an emergency is snug them up but????

Maybe it's a function of my height and, more specifically, long legs. There's hardly an airplane or car I've ever operated with the seat forward from "all the way back."

But there's no way I could reach a Johnson Bar snugged with the harness snugged tight in either plane I've owned.
