It may be old news now, but it still leaves me speechless. That doesn't happen very often.

Whether that's a real sign or one of those generated ones we saw recently on another thread, that's just wrong.

ya just gotta shake your head. Looks like its real because it has a NBC logo on the bottom as if it was a clip from a video segment but who knows. Wonder what the sign would have said if he were jewish or folks thought he were. I guess in thier eyes it would still be a sin. Oh brudder.

How many signs do you suppose said the same about having Papist President in 1960, pre-Internet?

Maybe he is Muslim and maybe it is in fact a sin. The sign fails to address the question of why I should care :)

The accusation which is untrue doesn't address the question of so what if it were true.

I can accept it if one wants to challenge Obama on the claim of Christianity such as his stand favoring abortion. But to claim something unfounded, I can't go for that one. There are plenty of issues with merit on which one can make a challenge without making up something without foundation.

Edit: My reference to abortion above is meant to be an example of what would be a valid argument by that church if they chose to place that on their sign; it is not a statement of my own opinion. Obama admits to his stand in favor of abortion rights. That is not in dispute so there is no lie created in order to make a challenge.

One of the biggest problems I have in so many arguments is a change in the facts in order to twist the argument in favor of the challenger. This happens quite frequently, either intentionally or out of ignorance. It could be such as that above or it could be misstating the wrong type of aircraft or it could be stating pilots are wealthy, over-privileged people with two many rights. I think most of us have seen enough examples of the latter two.

I guess this pastor has only 9 commandments. That's good because that "thou shall not bear false witness" stuff was too onerous and my least favorite anyway.

With all due respect.

I have found, over time, that the best reaction to people like this, and to their displays of excessive ignorance, is to utterly and completely disregard them. Your reaction- of any kind- to them, makes them the Big Winner.

There's nothing to see here, move along.

I'm afraid I must disagree. If we don't stand up for the truth when we see it trampled, the lies will spread.

Elie Wiesel said:
I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.

Grant:

I do not suggest we quietly acquiesce to the spreading of lies, but rather, we simply endeavor to spread the truth ourselves, rather than reacting to the purveyor of the lies.

The one expands knowledge, the other, gives much-sought publicity to the scare-monger. "All publicity is good publicity" -- this Bozo would benefit from any notoriety, perhaps even more from negative attention.

That's certainly a possibility, and I can't say that reacting to misinformation won't give more attention to those who spread it. On the other hand, those who see it will have the benefit of both sides, as opposed to those who see only the original misinformation, who may be totally snookered or believe that there is no alternative to the statement.
