I don't get it. I'm totally paranoid about running out of oil or gas. I normally have a couple of quarts in the back and flight time +2 hours of gas.

Then again, my biggest issue is not wanting to sit more than a few hours at a time...

he probably wanted to save a few cents on the gallon while not realizing that to get to the saving you have to burn more gas thus breaking even or coming out under.

pilots are a stingy breed.

I listened to the ATC recording. It sounds like the airport was closed at the time he was asking for taxi instructions and wasn't aware of it. There are a few head scratchers with this flight.
