ICON?

It looks a lot like the Sky Arrow Kate flies. I saw one at Mitch's place last year... a pretty neat plane.

Nice---the panel is silly..but it might look cool to the non-pilot which is their market. I don't imagine those instruments are easy to see from the right seat either.

panel is interesting. kinda cool to make it just look like a car.

I didn't see an AI on the panel!

One good thing I saw that gives me hope:
ICON’s engineering and development team came from Burt Rutan’s famed Scaled Composites

AI is overkill for a light sport aircraft anyway.

Probably--but it'd increase the survivability rate for a typical LSA pilot that got in less than ideal weather by about 100 times. Cheap insurance given the cost of an electric AI.

I don't know. The thing is okay, I guess, but it's just a toy. What else can you do with it? And maybe all the other pilots in the world are made of money, but the first thing I thought of when I saw the price tag was that I could buy a 421 for that much money.

Once upon a time, you could almost buy an Eclipse 500 with that much money. :)

And burn 30 GPH instead of 4. :)

the ICON A5, will shed its cloak at Aeroshell Square on Monday, July 28 at 10:00 am local

I wonder how well that panel will hold up after a few water landings.

I have a standalone 12V portable electronic attitude indicator that would work just fine.

Actually, I think I'll get one of these and keep it at the beach house...

I mentioned it and one from Terrafugia in THIS. You must have me on your ignore list.
Cool looking. $5,000 deposit which you can put on your credit card. Delivery by 12/10. Now where did I put that card?
Having talked with the Terrafugia guys, I can tell you they are dedicated to getting it up and flying. I think the flying part would be easier. Streeting it might be a real bear.

It is aimed at the light sport market. Two people, weight, distance, and VFR day. For a weekend warrior. it might work.
I rode a motorcycle on a learner's permit with similar rules. It's amazing how much fun you can have in the daylight.

I just put the latest one in last week.

Flash works everywhere else with no problem. I am using FF3, I wonder if that is giving me an issue? Anyone else see it ok with FF3?

Works fine for me on FF3

I installed the latest one about six times without success, and then I read that you have to uninstall the old one first, and in order to do that you have to download an uninstaller. I couldn't use the weather channel's interactive radar or watch YouTube, but I put up with it because I didn't have the time to deal with it. But THEN when I wanted to build my new BMW the site wouldn't work at all, I had to solve my problem.

But now it works fine.

I thought it was cool right up until I saw the part with the price! I think I could easily get that panel confused with my Mazda, though.

You should look at the going price of other light sport aircraft. They ain't cheap! You can also look at homebuild kits. Add up all the costs and you'll still be in that same price range.
For the person with a PPL ASEL, there are other, most robust, USED aircraft. But new, nah, not even close.

$139K for that cool looking thing doesn't seem like all that much to me. Of course, I can't afford that. Maybe in 5-10 years when they make it to the used market I can get one tho'.

I'm realizing that more and more. I guess I had always assumed that the LSAs would be more "realistic" in terms of pricing, but even the smallest ones are crazy expensive. I know nothing about homebuilding, but the more I read the more it seems like I'll never a own a plane :).

That could very well be a reasonable price, it's just a number that makes me cringe, no matter what it's attached to .

Hardly reasonable. If it were a car, it would be about $10k as would most light sports (the general intent of the rulemaking). Due to our litigious society, the only way to cover the costs is to charge such a ridiculous amount.
I'd love to build a plane but fully realize that even though I have the ability, I don't have the drive. Afterall, I've lived here for 5 months and I still have not put up the curtains. "Real men" don't need curtains!

With a pusher prop, do you have to press left rudder to counter-act p-factor when taking off, instead of right rudder? What else changes from the pilot's perspective? I imagine checking the oil and such is more interesting, too, with the engine up on a pod like that.

I love to have one of these for weekend playing... and think how much fun Gaston's would be with Bull Schoals Lake there... I think you'd be giving rides all weekend. :-)
